I know what you mean. It just took me 90 minutes to get them to increase my BT Cloud storage space to 50 GiB, which I should get for free being a BT Infinity customer. I spoke to 4 people. ”

First the good news, the trick is, as I've mentioned once before, to use the website. I upgraded online to BT Cloud 50GB, it was available to me within half an hour.

Then I tried to upgrade to BT Sport. It wouldn't let me ("another order in progress") but I tried again at midnight and it let me do the BTS upgrade too. I had already checked online that my Sky address was correct so the BTS upgrade took 5 minutes and no queries. Impressive.

Now for the bad news... BT Cloud is pretty useless for uploading large files (over 4GB - which I want to do) as without warning, the upload via the PC app often fails right at the end (and the web interface is limited to 1GB files). The status information during upload is non-existent and, if you do succeed with smaller files, the online file information is poor and it often reports the wrong file size (especially for large files). There are clearly some undocumented file size limits (intended or otherwise) in force - and that's unacceptable.

I've also tried Google Drive and Sky Drive - BT Cloud is the naffest of them all. Sorry for the off topic but I'm struggling to do anything useful with the 50GB. Also, if you forget about your backed up files there for 3 months, they say they can just delete the lot without so much as a 'by your leave'! Unless they make major improvements, BT Cloud is a waste of a contract extension, for me.

Rant over, back on topic, I agree with the comments about the Clare Balding show, it was very good.

Have to hand it to her she is a very skilled broadcaster, excellent program.

Harry himself also looked very relaxed, very good show all round.

As I think I mentioned before I thought Jake Humphrey was very good and clearly led the way with authority tonight, you could clearly see he had done all his homework for tonight.

I thought Steve Macnanaman was very good infact I thought he came across a lot better than Owen, maybe he was still in joy land after his big horse race win today.

Give time to Owen Hargreaves and im sure he will get better, seemed miles away at half time when David James put a question out to him, least there wasn't any yelling during commentary.

Great to hear Ian Darke back, he certainly seemed well up for it tonight and no doubt the rest of the season, great move by BT to get him and will clearly be of great benefit to help any new commers in the commentary box.

Have to say as well not to sure about Ray Stubbs, seemed a little slow and hesitant with question asking tonight but again have to give him time considering over the past 3 years or so he has been sat behind a desk in the studio.

Finally the DOG in the bottom of the screen didn't really bother me perhaps unlike most on here but is that because we are all used to having it in the top right hand side?

Barney Francis has been quoted as saying he like a challenge....well maybe this time he has well and truly found one....and he knows it.”

Although I'm one of the thousands of people! unable to get BT sports I wish them all the best, nice to read that Ian Darke will commentate have always liked him sky have been showing football for a long time now and think they are great in what they are doing and it's going to be hard task to follow and not sure if BT will be up to it but only time will tell

I initially tried that, I always do. It wanted me to re-contract, which I didn't want to do online for three reasons:

- I had no idea whether the same terms would apply, including my Infinity discount.
- It mentioned terms & conditions but provided no link to them, so I had no idea what terms & conditions it was referring to.
- It didn't say how long the new contract term would be.

Even the phone assistants I spoke to apparently didn't know - one said the re-contract would be 12 months, another said 18 months. One said I'd be a "new customer" and would lose my discount, another said it'd be the same price as before. Two said that I shouldn't even need to recontract to get the 50 GiB because I've already recontracted twice since they introduced the current BT Cloud terms in February 2013, one said I'd have to recontract.

Basically a mess, but it seems as though I'll be getting the 50 GiB in a few days with no changes to my contract or charges, which is what I'd expect. We'll see.

I use Dropbox (40 GiB for free) for my most critical stuff but I plan on using BT Cloud just to keep a separate copy of some backups I have on my server. Since it said it was free I thought I might as well give it a try.

I don't think the current situation is good for the consumer. Increased competition in the pay tv market is only good for the consumer (when it comes to sports) both content and cost wise, IF all channels are available on all the main platforms.

The current situation if your a football fan has to be the worse it's ever been. I'll expand on why I think this below...

1. Sky Sports and especially BT Sport is not avilable on all platforms.

- The following customers cannot get BT Sport even if they wanted to pay for it... Freeview/terrestrial tv (except for a You View box from BT only and then you can't get Sky Sports) ... Virgin media customers ... non-bt broadband customers who want to stream online ... customers who want it on more than one sky box (even if they offer to pay BT for each extra box) ... Free Sat Customers ...

2. Cost!

- It is now more expensive than ever to be able to view all the football matches available on UK television. The cheapest option is to have Sky Sports for £40+ p/m and add BT sports to one box for £15 p/m - so thats £55 p/m to get all the games. (and no it's not cheaper with BT Broadband - that's £15+ line rental a month and £10 a month on their cheapest broadband option, so £25 p/m to get BT Sport that way)

- Signing up to BT Sport AND Sky Sports through their own platforms doesn't even worth contemplating

Summary... Now I'm ok (except for the extra £15 p/m) as I have Sky and can just add BT Sports to my platform. But what about all the Virgin Media, Freeview, Freesat and online customers who cannot get BT Sport, when they can sign up for Sky Sports 1 and 2 and used to be able to get ESPN and before that Setanta? Alot of people missing out there.

Now I know not everyone wants to watch every game, but I think a stronger BT Sports package in it's current state is only bad for the consumer. If they get Champions League games as well in a couple of years and still don't offer their service on other platforms then this will lead to less and less total content being available for the consumer except at a very premium price.

What will emerge is a very fragmented and expensive set of options. Ideally what would be good for the conusmer and what I hope for is the choice to go with BT and add sky sports etc to the subscription OR go with Sky OR Virgin depending on what package attracted me the most and add the channels I want to pay for. I hope these companies can do a deal together so that they wholesale their channels to each other, because only then will it be a better situation to the old Sky Sports monopoly for consumers in terms of cost and ability to receive the most content.

Very interesting post geo_bay I have just about managed to get my grey matter around it and I think you're right, watching sport (and especially football) is getting more expensive. It only doesn't seem that way to me as I was one of the lucky ones already with BT broadband and I signed up before 1 August. We also have Sky - not much option really as our area doesn't have cable.

The only - slightly more radical - option would be to ditch all paywall watching and just watch what's free to air. There's a surprising amount of sport on BBC2, ITV, ITV4 and BBC3, amongst others. Guess I'm too much of a nutcase fan to do that, though

Good points and I agonised over the lack of information for weeks before deciding. I am within my initial 18 months Infinity/phone package and ended up with another 18 months Infinity/phone contract.

But I can (and will) tackle that problem next time I recontract, which will be in 6 months or so when I go for a free homehub 5 and possibly BT TV (if the Sky Sports situation is clearer). That will also allow me to synchronize my BT contracts (which I intend to get down to 12 months) with my annual line rental saver.

Can anyone tell me if it possible to get BT sport on Sky Multiroom at all? I thought if you pay the £10 per extra room you are supposed to get all your channels mirrored over.

No, not possible, because BT aren't wholesaling to Sky, i.e you buy direct from BT.

You can watch online though, so that's an option for watching on a second screen.

So can you pay BT any extra to have other cards enabled?

I'm in a slightly fortunate situation because the guy who added the discount to my account erroneously told me it'd be a 12 month contract, whereas it was in fact an 18 month one. As a result, I was told I could cancel after 12 months as promised if I wanted (and I have a reference for this). So I can keep my discount for the full 18 months or cancel after 12 if I need or want to. Adding BT Sport didn't affect this but I don't want to recontract yet again cos it'll just complicate things and is unnecessary.

Thoughts on the Des Kelly life's a pitch show- When speaking with the journalists and guests there is some really good discussion and interesting segments. However the comedy intro falls flat on its face, cringeworthy to watch.

Pretty much my thoughts. They really should put the 'comedy' at the end if they're going to stick with it, I'd guess a lot of people will tune in, see that and turn off before the programme actually gets good, which it does after that's over.

You can get it on Freeview but it is via Freesat from Sky. You just use the viewing card from your box and you can view via that.

You seem to be thinking that we are being charged more because sport is being charged via 2 platforms. If BT or anything or company weren't offering subscription TV Sky would be charging more. The fact that there are 2 ppv sports channels doesn't make it more expensive, but it creates competition. Without this competition Sky can charge what it likes and not have any pressure to produce top quality programming.

As for people on VM they can leave VM and view if they want. The fact the wont is their choice, no one is making them leave or view. If VM customers or any other people haven't got BT Sport of Sky Sports for than matter that is down to them. Sports clubs are profit making companies, and sports men / women are people earning a living. As such you have NO right to view their programs for free.

VM have no right to call either Sky or BT for not showing their programs as VM have not spent a single penny on acquiring sports TV rights. With that in mind why should BT be either bullied or pressured into giving VM TV channels it has invested in when VM has done nothing. This is just VM free loading, taking but putting nothing back.

The opening section is terrible. Surely it will be dropped. And they keep running out of time at the end as well. Why they can't extend I don't know but they should just scrap the beginning and the "onion bag" is bad also.

Not everyone can leave VM. The large elderly population may not be able to learn another set-up easily, if at all. Some people like the Mail columnist Martin Sanuels can't get satellite dishes and BT cannot supply all the Sky Sports channels.

If VM wants to enable its customers to see the BT Sport channels I would not call this freeloading. The same as O2 buying wifi access from VM on the London Underground.

VM owns the rights for wifi access on the Tube and has sold access to its competitors. I wouldn't call O2 freeloading. VM gets paid for this and I would expect BT to get paid for its channels. Paying is not freeloading and how much VM decides to spend on content is irrelevant in my eyes.

Good post - just to note that you can pay BT line rental for 1 whole year in advance and it works out at around £10.75 per month.

I don't see how Sky would be able to charge what they like without BT. Even if they had a monopoly, subscription sport is not an essential product. If they bumped up the price too much then customers would leave. Also without the likes of BT bidding in the PL auction Sky wouldn't have to pay as much for the rights. They could therefore maintain current prices and increase their profits at the same time.

Yes, I could leave VM, but it would be crazy for me to go to BT or any other ADSL broadband provider for that matter. With Virgin I pay for and get close to 20mb. Based on neighbours' experiences and BT's own predictions, I'd be lucky to get 10% of that via ADSL. BT is to blame for the slow speed I'd get via ADSL - the same BT that won't let me subscribe to their service as an online only customer.
