I've no issue with BT buying and exploiting Champions League/Europa League rights for commercial gain; however, I think it's stretching a point that they're "giving back to the people" 2 finals that were previously available to all free-to-air.”

And it would have been a stipulation of the contracts that they be made available (or given back to the people in BS) for free.

Probably more to do with the fact that btsport's website would probably crash under the load. By putting it on Youtube they get Google to do the heavy loading and incur the significant streaming costs.

I wonder if embedding will be enabled.

So other media outlets could embed the video into their own websites to enhance their own coverage (e.g. live text). I suppose that could be seen as win-win: BT gets the viewers, while the other outlet gets the page impressions.

Will BT Sport Europe be free to view for the Finals has it said? Obviously Showcase is poor SD quality, and not available on Sky, so it would be much preferable if it was.

They've said:
Quote:
“ ....BT Sport Showcase on Freeview channel 59, on BT.com, on BTSport.com or via the BT Sport YouTube channel.”

http://sport.bt.com/football/news/bt...11364060397634
Thus, no indication, chrisr21, of it being available for free via the Sky platform.

Trust me BT Sport Europe SD is just as unwatchable.

It might be in HD on You tube

Surely it's broadcast in a higher resolution than 544x576 on satellite?

I have no idea, all I know is I've tried to watch a game on there before and it's unwatchable and bordering on a disgrace.

Had to resort to the App and a chromecast.

720 x 576i for the BT Sport SD channels on digital satellite
The quality isn't bad but its not the best SD quality out there. Hardly unwatchable though!
BT Sport Showcase is what qualifies as unwatchable!!

Cheers for the info all above! It'll be a shame if they don't make HD free to view.

I was cancelling BT after the Europa league final. Completely not worth anything in the summer.
If I can get it confirmed it's HD on you tube. I'll cancel tomorrow. Anyone know?

Don't forget there is a 30 day notice period.

I wasn't aware of that. Thought I just had to cancel before the next month kicked in?

So, just a head's up guys...

I just called BT to cancel my BT Sport for the summer. As a retention deal, I was offered BT Sport for £10.99 a month for 12 months, with free HD for 12 months. That's much better than any of their previous post-season BT Sport retention offers.

I've got the email now which confirms this. That's a pretty good offer I reckon, so go try and get it yourselves!

Interesting. As a broadband customer I cancelled the sport for the summer and they just accepted with no retention offer, was literally processed within 30 seconds, was very surprised.

I pay £12.49/mo including HD as standard. But then I'm with Plusnet.

I was considering moving my broadband to BT from Sky, but this offer means that it's cheaper for me to leave my broadband where it is.

Yes indeed. Typical as I just cancelled sky BB to go with BT broadband. Oh well we all learn.

Are you a BT TV customer?

Had a email this morning informing me of a £4 monthly increase for BT Sport,

£2 for the BT Sport pack
£1 for the HD sub
£1 for multiroom

BT Sport without a BT phone line and broadband for me has now reached a breaking point £32.99 for what they offer in comparison to Sky Sports is bloody ridiculous and I'm seriously considering cancelling now as I have no intention of taking their broadband, my Sky price increase for the full package with movies/sport and multiroom was a £3.50 increase how BT can justify a larger increase for just BT Sport is beyond me.
