Think it worked financially for BT as they were able to get viewer details from YouTube to target their services at. This could not be achieved by FTA channels.

Anyone worked out why all the print media seem to be applauding BT for putting the Europen finals on free to air platforms? BT are giving itself a pat on the back and pushing the messag that they have done a favour to everyone by putting the final on youtbe.

Has everyone forgot that their contract with UEFA stated that the finals had to be on free to air tv?

Or have I dreamt that?

free sales research from youutube data

Setanta Ireland should have have done this in Ireland as they carry BT Sport and most people here would have have watched the game live on RTE2

So June, no Premier League, FA Cup., Scottish Premiership, Rugby Premiership or European Rugby.

Wonder how many subscribers will switch off until August?
What is live until August? Womens Super League, Womens Tennis with Wimbledon meaning two weeks without WTA events I imagine.
Moto GP, Formula E and some other motor sport.

To be honest with distractions of Euro 2016, Wimbledon, Tour de France and Olympics FTA, and Cricket and Formula 1 in Europe on Sky. Would seem BT in June and July is just a not bather zone.

I canceled last week and they straight away gave 3 months for free inc HD. So at least they're aware they aren't offering much.

I have the setanta sport pack on satellite in Ireland that includes BT sport for a 12 months. It ends in August 2016. But I will cancel it. As Eir should do a BT and offer the content to Non Eir TV customers.

BT sport this summer has been brought up before
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1935219

The situation is similar to when previously discussed. Big rights are with BBC/ITV/Sky so what are BT supposed to show?

However there is plenty of live sport from their "minor" rights deals (AFL, CFL, CPLT20, Indycar and the US sport tied-in via their ESPN deal) NBA finals in June, MotoGP, MLB and others.

Surely you are a non-Eir TV customer if you're getting it on Sky satellite? And you are being offered it by Eir's Setanta subsidiary.

They could really do with some English cricket,..

Also Setanta UK did a deal with RUK. Wonder if BT have ever lookd into it.
Horse raving every night between May - August, great channel filler

Sky have the rights to english live cricket

I won't watch BT Sport until live French Ligue 1 games and the new season's episode of the European Football Show

Horse Racing is hardly watched

BT are also starting to show Scottish league Cup matches from mid July exclusively, not mind blowing i know but still competitive football in the summer.

Yes, fully aware of that. But most cricket people are expecting a BT bid next time.

Sky think horse racing is a worthwhile channel filler, they show regular winning posts during the summer.
Currently BT are showing the fishing show followed by Irish Rally.
I'm sure racing from Kempton with a full Derby preview would rate higher.

Some of us think there is more to English sport than just football. It would be nice if BT spent at least a couple of quid of my subs on something else.

For those renewing BT sport for another 12 months.

I just got BT sport in HD which will be £26.99 from July for £16.99. You have to renew for 12 months.

I'll stick with paying £12.49/mo with Plusnet thanks.

Plusnet is BT

From a consumer perspective, however, Plusnet is aimed at a different segment of the market, hence prices telephone/broadband below BT, but a BT Sport add-on via Sky between the discounted price for BT customers and the non-discounted price for standalone via Sky.

Plusnet customers (via Sky or Plusnet TV) only get set-top box access/ cannot access BT Sport content online.

So, it's another pricing option for BT Sport- to bundle it with telephone/broadband or Fibre from a BT subsidiary whose focus is on the value/feature-lite end of the market.

Yes - I've just done the same.

You don't even have to threaten to cancel. Just said my current discount (under a 12 month contract) was expiring in late July, I had got the price rise letter and what would they do.

They offer discount of £10 per month immediately without any haggling at all - ie new price £21.99 (from July) less discount £10.00 = £11.99 per month.

HD new price £5.00 (from July) is then separate on top of that - no discount offered on that.

Maybe I could have got a better offer but the above is literally on a plate for everyone.

Got offered £10.99 for 3 months (with HD free) then £15.99 (complete with HD) for the remainder of the 12 months.

Yet ironically PlusNet offer static IPs whereas the more fully featured BT broadband do not. When I wanted to subscribe to BT Sport recently this meant BT broadband was not an option for me, whilst the lack of online access meant PlusNet was not either.

So by making their options so stupidly convoluted they priced me out, as the standalone satellite cost was too much for around six hours per month. Thankfully I found a way of watching my sport on an official (legal) stream, and for free. But would have gladly paid a fair price to watch a normal TV broadcast too had they offered one.

Is this a legacy of their previous existence independent of BT?

I switched from BT to Plusnet late last year, then contacted BT to cancel BT Sport via Sky, which had automatically reverted to full price.

BT agreed to beat Plusnet's price for BT Sport, on condition of a 12 month contract (Plusnet offer BT Sport on a 1 month minimum term).

So, I have telephone/fibre via Plusnet, but take BT Sport on Sky from BT, at £9.99 per month (£10.99 after price rise) with 12 months free HD.
