I notice Martina Navratilova is commentating on the WTA finals for BTS today.

Is this the first tournament she has done for BT? I suspect it is.

Isn't it also the last WTA tournament of the season covered by BT?

There was something floating about around 1-2 weeks ago that BT Sport cancelled a tennis show for which among other guests Navratilova had been setup for. It would have cost £80k. The cancellation costs were £60k. This story doesn't seem to be discoverable anywhere online though.

This, together with the good Sky ratings for Championship rugby, suggests few rugby fans have cancelled their Sky Sports subs - I suspect vast majority of people watching rugby on BTS are people who also have SS or people signing up to BTS who have never had SS.

Of course in due course we'll get Sky's ratings for Heineken Cup (and then November internationals) and will be able to do comparison re prior year.”

Bit late following up on this - we now have Sky's ratings for the first week of this season's Heineken Cup:

2013 Heineken Cup week 1:
LIVE RUGBY-HARLEQUINS V SCARLETS (SAT 1534) 242
LIVE RUGBY-EXETER V CARDIFF (SUN 1232) 190
LIVE RUGBY-OSPREYS V LEINSTER (SAT 1743) 157
LIVE RUGBY-TOULON V GLASGOW (SUN 1448) 137
LIVE RUGBY-EDINBURGH V MUNSTER (SAT 1300) 90

2012 Heineken Cup week 1:
LIVE EUROPEAN RUGBY (SUN 1447) 178
LIVE EUROPEAN RUGBY (SAT 1742) 171
LIVE EUROPEAN RUGBY (SUN 1304) 151
LIVE EUROPEAN RUGBY (SAT 1534) 148
LIVE EUROPEAN RUGBY (SUN 1930) 47
LIVE EUROPEAN RUGBY (FRI 1930) 43

So no evidence of rugby union fans cancelling Sky Sports subs - 2013 ratings are slightly up overall on 2012.

It's the WTA Finals so in theory the last WTA tournament of the season.

Though WTA website shows there is one more tournament in Sofia next week and the Fed Cup final is next weekend.

BTS does not appear to be showing either of the above though Eurosport is showing the Fed Cup Final. Presumably that will be Eurosport's last WTA tennis for several years as BTS has it exclusively from next season.

I've just watched the Arsenal game on BT and I must say their presentation is poor. Michael Owen adds nothing as co-commentator and at times the play on the far side of the field may as well have been in another country. I won't be signing up for it when the weekend is over.

It is the 21 WTA Premier events BT Sport have the exclusive rights for from 2014 for 3 years.

British Eurosport can still show the WTA Internationals (for example they showed considerable hours live from Linz during the second week of October this year followed by the
Luxembourg Open). There are indications they will continue to show WTA International tier tournaments and perhaps increase coverage from these events as a result of losing the WTA Premier rights.

OK, many thanks for that.

Any idea why the Tournament of Champions from Sofia isn't on? It seems that the top eight ranked women are in it. IMG own/distribute the rights offering 15 live matches (available via world feed).

I don't necessarily remember if it was on in UK previously or not and likewise I have no idea if it makes much tv coverage globally - but it would seem there for the taking!

The guy in charge of sound for the crystal palace v arsenal, should be sacked, I could have done better, I couldn't hear the commentators over the tanoy and was late taking music out, and rather than fade he kept chopping it off.

I would have expected a far slicker production.

What's with all the cheer leader crap in the pre-match build up.

Because of the NFL in London tomorrow, there is cheer leaders in town performing anywhere they can get a gig and earn a few extra pennies.

As for the audio and not being able to hear the commentators over the tannoy, they were right next to a tannoy output speaker, so it had nothing to do with the sound man.
Think you're being a little harsh actually.

yes.. they aren't bothering to show Sofia next week and Fed + Davis Cup are on ES.

yesterday they ended the WTA coverage (even though there was still 1 live match to go) to show Scottish football  ES still showed the match.

i don't trust BT with WTA at all.

That's the problem of not having enough channels like Sky and at present no red button interactive service. I hope things will improve from 2014 when BT Sport have the WTA Tour exclusively.

I hope that viewers don't tune in to watch the UFC and think this is how it is all the time. What the hell BT are doing i will never know but its a sham!
The reaction on Twitter is uproar. Why they have to mess with proven ways, ways that have worked for years and very successfully i will never know but BT are starting to become a bit of a laughing stock and not a serious sporting broadcaster

They have some bimbo that is mumbling her way through each and every sentence, is clearly in possession of zero MMA knowledge and they keep cutting off the commentary to go to the BT studio to talk utter nonsense with someone in a dickybow.... He just responded to a question of what is the keys to victory for the next fight, Ross Pearson, he reply was "Don't get hit".......!
Why they didn't just lt it go as they usually do, well, im still trying to work it out.

It seems using 2 blow up dolls, Harry Potter and Meatloaf as presenters (according to one tweet I just read) isn't impressing UFC fans much at all.

Someone else likened it to TOWIE does UFC..
I gave up and turned it off. Chase watching the boxing off SS1 and will see if BT rerun the event unmolested at some point.

Have a look at the Twitter comments...

To be fair Gareth Davies knows his stuff, so I wouldn't include him in any negative feedback.

He is one of thé most respected MMA & Boxing journo's in the world, so why the hell is wasn't to front this attempt, i haven't the faintest. But when they cut to him at octagon side, he seems very wooden and almost a little scared.

Yes, but there are some pretty knowledgeable UFC viewers who seem extremely displeased with BT's presentation of the event.
