Just finished watching Peter Jacksons film, Brain Dead . I gotta say its a pretty awesome movie . Probably the most gratuitous ad gory film I've seen. Has anybody got any other recommendations of other little known or underrated horrors ?.

A lot of the "giallo" type italian/euro horror thrillers were cult like for years, but are now easily available. Quite hard to answer to be honest. Island of Death i recall was pretty extreme for its time, perhaps tame nowadays. Horror for me was suspense laced with jump out of the seat moments, these days its lots of torture/gore. One movie of recent years which had real frights was Drag Me To Hell.

Well I don't know if you've already seen it but I love his film The Frighteners, which is more of a mish mash of genres.Still my favourite film of his.

The Return of the Living Dead from 1985 is a bit of a cult classic. It has just the right balance of comedy/horror and an excellent soundtrack.

Horror Express (1972) - It's a sort of cross between The Thing (1982) and Murder on the Orient Express, with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee on top form.

Favourite line....

Peter Cushing: Monster?! We're British, you know!

I don't bother with mainstream horror as they're always boring. Braindead is an amazing film.

I can't usually get on with sub-titled films but 'R-Point' terrified me.

One film that I think should get more mention is Abel Ferrara's The Addiction. Not exactly your sparkly vampire film and has a little existential philosophy thrown in.

re. Eden Lake - It really is horrifying, because the way people are in the UK now, I can easily imagine most of the events in that film actually taking place.

I watched a cheapy on Virgin the other day called 'Sightseers' . Although listed as a black comedy, it was pretty grim in places.

I remember seeing a horror film years ago called 'The Funhouse'. I found it quite entertaining and creepy at the time. Haven't seen it for about 30 years but would be intrigued to see it again.

It's probably rubbish

A film called The Convent (2000), a lot of fun.

Frankenhooker, Brain Damage, The Basket Case films.
they are all Frank Henenlotter films.

Lots of silly Troma stuff as well.

I agree about Night of The Creeps, Fido, Trick R Treat and Inbred.
They get the mix of comedy and horror about right.

There's a lesser known Wes Craven film called Deadly Friend.
Doesn't seem much, but gets weirder as the film progresses.
The ending is a corker.

Dolls is a good one as well. Dead and Buried, anyone ?

Absolutely love Frankenhooker and recently got it on DVD.

I'd highly recommend it.
