You'll have to move out. Bats are protected.

Omg! I have no advice to offer - the most I have to deal with are daddy long legs.

Close it in the room and call the RSPCA to deal with it in the morning.

This. Don't try and catch it as they have very delicate wings and you may injure it.

September in Yorkshire, is the month of the 'Daddy long legs' we get plagues of them.. It's still warm enough to leave windows open, so they find their way in!

If you do intend to try and get it out on your own, get a big net and/or thick gloves:

Yes...but it is only August

I would just like to sugget that the OP keeps the bats on the north side of the Pennines...because I wouldn't known what the 'bat out of hell' to do with them either.

Don't worry. I would never intentionally injure or hurt an animal..

I think what I'll do is turn the lights off in the living room and put the lights on on the decking and patio.. It might be attracted to light and fly out.

I had one fly in when I was in Spain. I opened all the windows and turned the lights off and it went out of it's own accord.

Yes well....I believe in tackling the problem as it arises.....not trying to anticipate doom and gloom...

I encountered a few bats in Italy...and they seemed quite 'armless'....and I have just seen-off a legion of flying ants......so we let September and it's adventures take care of itself!

Lol, well this bat has got 10 mins to hot wing its way out of here, cos I am off to bed and closing the doors ..
If its still here tomorrow , will probably leave it to hang around til dusk, then will get something soft to scoop it up and send it back to its coven or roost or whatever bat group it hangs with. Night all

If we'd tried that at my grandparent's house, we'd have had 6 more fly in. FWIW, my grandfather usually got them out with a fishing net.
