Confirmed: X Factor USA Categories
It had been rumoured that the categories this year would consist of one male, one female, one over and one group. However, last night at the TCA's (Press Conference) Simon confirmed that the categories would revert to how they were in Season 1. So this years categories will be: Boys, Girls, Overs and Groups. Admittedly, this does make more sense and it's actually a better more straight forward way of categorising the contestants.
I hope this is a sign that the entire show will go back to how it was in Season 1. Not as much focus on the judges, strong talent, not too much over editing and just a show that has a more professional feel. |

However what I noticed is that he didn't mention the categories would be enforced on the Live Shows. So maybe this change in the middle rounds will make way for the one per category.
• Judges’ Houses and Boot Camp rounds are kaput for the upcoming installment, executive producers Wade and Andrew Llinares revealed. Instead, a yet-to-be-announced middle round will involve all four mentors whittling down the field until each one has four contestants per category.
