I can't help thinking they are so late to the party. PAYG customer numbers have been dropping so much in recent years and brands like Tesco mobile are so well established. They are absolutely mad.

'Mobile by Sainsbury's' ... really? the website is absolutely awful too. 8p and 4p meh, others do that and less, £20 for a bundle that includes 1GB of data, you can get that for 1/2 the price elsewhere.

Awful, overpriced tariffs. If they persist with these, I'd be surprised if they get even 1% takeup of them.

Their prices are more Taste The Difference than Basics, aren't they?

When you can get unlimited everything for £18 per month rolling, or 15 for 12 months on another network, it really shows up the bad value payg is. Heck, even Virgin has a better sim deal even with their restrictions. I don't see me ever going back to that model, as long as I am accepted onto sim only deals.

The only payg networks i've seen real value on is Giff Gaff, Three's 321 and of course Ovivo which is truly unbeatable.

They would not have started it if they did not think they would make money from it. They would have looked into it before spending the money to set it up.

As PAYG goes I suppose it is ok, myself I get better value from sim only contract.

If you look at the bigger providers like Vodafone and their Freedom packs, you will see that Sainsburys PAYG is better value.

I think it is better value than Tescos as well, we was looking at it at work last week and trying to compare it to Tescos.

Also you will get double Nectar points on or your shopping for that month.

I am starting to sound like a salesman

Sainsburys mobile uses the Vodafone network, which here at the moment is not great for some reason.

I also think that if you are paying a tenner a month to get these deals, then you may as well do it by direct debit and get sim only. Ok, I know some people don't have a bank account or one that can do direct debit or they don't like direct debit.

I got another 7 months i think until my contract runs out.

The market will tell if they made the right choice or not.

Sainsbury's mobile are offering free incoming roaming calls & significantly reduced roaming rates in 30 European countries this summer.

Maybe, if Vodafone provides you with the coverage that meets your needs.

It is the only network that provides a decent coverage here.
The next best one is O2, but EE and three is a waste of time here, even if people still seem to use them.
Flipping annoying when you are saying, I did not hear that, say again, nope, still did not hear it, get a decent network

I thought it was voda at one point, but it seems most of the problem is people on EE as when I phone landlines and people on Voda on my mobile, all is fine.

O2 is a bit strange, a friend of mine is on Tescos mobile, now when she is out of her flat all is fine, but inside her flat she can hear me fine, no breakup what so ever, but I can hardly hear her. I presume this is something to do with RX and TX being on two different frequencies and that something in her flat must be blocking one of them.

I could also be wrong.

Looking at their website today and it appears to be getting more like Tesco mobile and offering contracts as well.

I wonder if they will be the main option of choice IF Tesco Mobile is sold off to someone like Talk Talk?

Do they offer 4g as I notice its not mentioned on their website - however you would expect them to as they seem to be advertising 4g phones.

I believe that Vodafone don't sell 4G to MVNOs, hence why, for example TalkTalk are switching to O2.

Interesting. I wonder what ofcom would make of that with the move to less networks proposed as well?

You'd hope that they'd go for a BT style system where there are meaningful controls on price and wholesale access. If company X offers 4G they should offer it as a wholesale product to everyone, for example

Your right as this poses serious concerns about all this merging. Yes, we know its bad as a consumer to reduce choice, but I suspect the argument will be that all these MVNOs will exist and provide competition as well.

Maybe not as much as hoped.

It's not so much they won't sell 4G to MVNOs (they've said they are willing) but more that they want the MVNOs to pay for usage that causes the problems.

Not even on the giffgaff style of segregated 3g/4g plans? They're going to have to eventually I suppose, it's just going to be the case of who blinks first, the MNOs or the MVNOs.

Well dont they pay for usage now? I'm assuming its a bundle of data at a set price that is at wholesale per mb.
