New 2013 Samsung Smart Hub
Has anyone used this? I'm trying to find out more about the On TV tab, does it only recommend from DTT/Freeview thats built in or can it offer recommendations from external sources like Sky?
Also while I'm asking, has anyone used the new Samsung smart TV & LG 2013 smart TV, if so which one do you find best? |

can't answer about recommendations from external sources, the video on the samsung site shows them connecting to a cable box and it working though.
Having upgraded my Samsung TV in the last week and moving from the old hub to the new one, i find some things missing in the upgrade which worked so much better before 1) Linking Picassa in my photos - you can via the app, but previously smart hub you could view facebook and picassa albums direct into my photo's. I've tried linking sugarsync but no luck, so for now unless my PC is on and connected this is pretty useless 2) PVR features - old hub, when i selected a program to record it would also suggest to record in HD or do series link, or even make recommendations for other programs, however this all appears to be missing in the new hub (freeview and freesat). Major backwards step in my opinion 3) Skype - i don't understand why they supply the new remote with the gimmick of voice control (far quicker just to press the buttons on the remote) and yet the mic will not work with skype. They still insist on buying a separate skype camera/mic, why is this ? So overall, I'm happy with the new TV (6510), but whilst the hub looks flashy, it's actually not doing anything better than before, possibly even worse. I'm guessing the hub is more useful for the USA market, especially since recommendations seems to link in with other on demand suppliers (Samsung proudly boast they supply all terrestrial catchup services, yet the recommendations don't speak to them). What do others think, and are any of the above (PVR especially) things which are possible and I am just doing something wrong? |

Thanks for your help, I also emailed Samsung and they confirmed it does, below is part of the reply I received from them.
In short, yes the 'On Tv' tab offers recommendations based on external sources including Sky+ HD. The 'On Tv' tab offers recommendations based on the Service Provider (i.e. Freeview, Sky or Virgin Media) you have selected as your preferred Channel Source. |
