Madonna, Britney, Christina Kiss - VMA 2003

The Spice Girls - Brit Awards 1997

Adele Someone Like You - Brits 2011

Geri Halliwell Bag it Up, Inflatable Legs - Brit Awards 2000

Which other Awards Show performances can you think of that seemed to get the whole world talking?

I agree with all the above except I don't remember the Geri Halliwell one or Rihanna at the Brits.

I'd add:
•Britney and Rihanna performing S&M
•Miguel doing the stage jump onto a fans head
•Beyonce's performance of Who Run The World with the flawless backdrop effects.

Brit Awards Notable Moments.

Geri Halliwell Vs. The Spice Girls (2000)
The Spice Girls were set to receive the Outstanding Contribution award at the 2000 Brit awards, reportedly to mark their dominance of the music scene in the past decade. There was much media speculation before and even during the event as to whether or not former Ginger Spice, Geri Halliwell would accept the award with the four remaining members of the group.[17] On the night, however, Halliwell declined to join her former band mates and instead ensured front page coverage the following day by performing her solo number 1 single "Bag It Up" straddling a pole between a pair of giant inflatable legs

Gimme More at the VMAs was a massive story the next day, but for all the wrong reasons. Britney's done so many iconic performances though, like the Slave snake one, the Madonna kiss, etc.

Britney Spears - 2001, 2003 and (for the wrong reasons) 2007 VMAs.
Madonna - 1984 VMAs.
Lady Gaga - 2009 VMAs.
Michael Jackson - 1995 VMAs.

I can't recall any really notable performances from other award shows.

Justin and Kylie at the 2003 Brits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3qquAIUyrA

Michael Jackson at the 1996 Brits (notable for Jarvis Cocker stage invasion): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJqIEU6RfUo

Not sure how remembered this is, but Amy Winehouse's performance at the 2007 Mercury Awards was beautiful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbzUGoT-0TI

I seem to remember a lot of my friends talking about the Backstreet Boys performance at the MTV awards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZObTMXiVwB4

Although it didn't get the whole world talking one of my favourite Brit award duets was Texas and Method Man, I had hated that song with just Texas but adding Method Man really improved it.

Madonna performing "Vogue" at the MTV awards.

Bananarama performing "Love In The First Degree" at the Brits (that might have something to do with their backing dancers)

This. I loved that performance as it was so unexpected & yet it worked brilliantly.

My favourite probably didn't set the world alight but TLC's performances at the MTV VMAs were absolutely amazing:

What annoyed me the most about the Britney, Christina & Madonna kiss performance was not the performance itself but whenever the media spoke about it they always used to focus on the "Madonna & Britney" kiss with hardly any mention of Christina's involvement. They also took great pride in showing Justin's reaction afterwards.
