Two series.

He certainly isn't going to attract the general public to watch more like switch channels . I agree viewing figures are probably going to drop especially if its up against Britains got talent or X factor. The main actor is a large factor in appealing and attracting viewers. Oh dear Steven. What have you done????

There were reports his initial one was five years, which would expire around Xmas, but U suspect it would have annual gateways for both parties.

That assumes DW competes with the programmes you mention for a lot of the available audience, I'm not sure they do.

But why not wait and see before judging? Some people thought the same about Eccleston, Tennant and Smith, but were all wrong. He was no doubt nervous in that interview, probably worried about people judging him before giving him a chance.

If you want to talk about awkward intro interviews, try watching Matt's again.

I'm allowed to have an opinion I just don't see the doctor in him (that's why I usually don't watch these things )

It all depends on other roles and whether he will accept being typecast. My prediction is two years but I will be happy to be proven wrong, he's a top actor.

Very easy, rather than Clara just being someone who loves The Doctor she can actually move on from that. Clara has seen all The Doctors, she is beyond that and can now relate to him. If anything, having Clara introduced early and build her character up allows for a friendship to happen.

Would love to see what the first line will be from him and really hope for a Tucker/Who crossover for CIN.

I don't see the typecast issue being a problem, after all he is typed cast as Malcolm Tucker and unlike previous actors he is actually quite well known.

He'll leave when he is told or when he feels that he can no longer add to it. With that about 4-5 years.

I don't understand why people are saying he has no resonance as the Doctor, why don't we wait until he starts and take it from there. As soon as I saw him I thought he bore a passing resemblance to a young Peter Cushing. It'll be great not to have a pretty actor. I expect he will have the gravitas of Christopher Eccleston with his own special quirkiness.

Only those that are only watching to see some eye candy - for those who liked DW from before the DT/MS era, then they will appreciate that over the course of the history of the show, it's generally been a more mature doctor...

It's a move away from CBBC Doctor Who, which is where it's headed in recent years (while still being enjoyable)... It's a brave choice to go with the man best known for his performance as Malcolm Tucker - they could easily have gone for another young pretty boy if they wanted to play it safe, knowing that to some looks are more important than substance.

At the end of the day, if the scripts aren't upto scratch, then it doesn't matter how good or bad PC is...

Well to see Matt Smith in interviews you would think he's not even in showbiz. He's bashful and nervous and certainly doesn't resonate as the Doctor. However as The Doctor he's magnificent. Why assume Capaldi doesn't resonate as The Doctor based on one interview?

Hopefully he won't do a Christopher Eccleston and leave after only one series.

No, Capaldi is a huge Doctor Who fan.
But he may be pushed for being too old, I know there have been older Doctors in the past, but that was when there wasn't that much to watch on TV anyway and casting Matt may have changed the game completely.

I can see Moffat leaving after one more series (2 at the most) but hopefully Capaldi stays on for at least 3.

I can't imagine Moffat leaving until Twelve does. Purely because he likes to make a lasting story around his characters. He's told the story of one Doctor and I'm sure he's got a story planned out for Twelve which goes right to the end, just as with Matt.

I never said that.

But in the last three threads I have opened, you have been there with the same thing and in MY opinion it will get boring quickly.

You are entitled to yours, as am I. I never said you shouldn't say it, I said it will get boring.

Wow. Seriously? Why? Because he's not young and "hot"?

I think it's an extremely canny move to stop it being any more f***ed than it currently is. The show needs a change of direction. He'll be brilliant. Excellent actor. Can totally see him as the Doctor.

Can't see him doing a lot of action scenes though. The only thing that concerns me a bit is that I hope his energy levels are up to it...

He's tied with Hartnell for the oldest Doctor to take on the role. And unlike Hartnell, the Doctor is no longer an asexual grandfather figure, he's a Tumblr icon. I hate to even use the phrase "Tumblr icon" but it's true...
