And in fact I think that section of the audience is more important to the shows survival and far more vital than the obsessives. We all saw what happened when they were given some degree of control. Disaster. RTD made the show something for everyone and not just a ghettoised nerd fest. Brilliant!

One which stood out was an American girl who one might expect would fit into typical 'fan girl' stereotype. She admitted that when Capaldi was announced she had a 'who the hell is that moment?' but then googled him and found out about his other work and then couldn't wait for the new era. That's the future of Doctor Who right there.”

Just for fun I decided to look at the Peter Capaldi tag n tumblr, which is considered to be the home of the most fangirls. Funnily enough even on there I have actually seen much more posts about fangirls who supposedly complain about Capaldi being ugly/old than actual fangirls who complain about it.
The majority of posts about Capaldi are actually either people noticing that he play a W.H.O. Doctor in World War Z or making fun of how they'd like to see his Doctor to be like Malcom Tucker.
But just for un let's look at a few posts that actually comment on people's feelings on him being the Doctor:

Actually, after seeing Colin Baker in I'm A Celebrity last year both me and my mum think that he has got a cute, kindly and pleasant face. Plus, on that show about the new doctor last month there were a few woman that said they fancied Sylvestor McCoy.
Since when have blokes cared more about teens fancying them than the older, more mature women?

No, I put objective. I find you a link that I came across in a moment. Ok, it starts by mentioning things that aren't anything to do with Chrissy's face (ie: leather jacket, Hair, ears, his weight and he is too skinny). Besides he looks better with no hair at all, and this is a sign of having a striking face. I don't like Chrissy with hair, it's too straggly.

The haircut wasn’t exactly his best either. Who picked that, by the way?! CE has such great hair, why would they give him THAT when the others got such luxurious manes?!
But it was more than that… I don’t know… I just wish he was cut a bit more slack around here. He was an amazing Doctor, and his face is the only thing (OK maybe not JUST his face, but you get the point) that made some of his movies worth watching.
Besides, we've already dealt with the fact fangirls like Tennant mainly because of his character and his dress sense. I like 9 because of my fetish for leather, but he has got a gorgeous face anyway. There are also quite a few rock stars that I fancy mainly because they have a penchant for leather.”

I used to love watching the old movies with my nan (I love you and miss you nan, wherever you are
). She passed on to me her appreciation for handsome man such as Burt Reynolds, Clint Eastwood, Burt Lancaster, Clark Gabol, et al. I now have an eye for modern classical hunks and I've written them down on my list.
