Obviously I'm ecstatic, won money and I admire his work so far but what is your opinion? Hope to get a poll set up.

Yes DW is not about sex and fancying the cast. It's about time we had an older Doctor.

I think he's at least 10 years too old to be cast in the role for today's audiences and can't help but think the fact that he's Scottish was a factor in casting him. Other than that, great choice...

I expected the forum to be divided on his casting but the general consensus is majority in favour of his appointment.

I think he's a great choice. He's a very versatile actor. (Plus, for the first time since the reboot, the Doctor will be older than me.)

Yes.

Moffat should be applauded for going against the grain and fighting the trend of recent years and also not condescending to the ridiculous myth that children and young people cannot relate to older characters. Its nonsense. Of course a few silly brats are going 'Ewwwwww he so old' but theyll soon get over it when the OneD movie comes out. The general reaction is massively positive because he is a fantastic actor.

When I was a kid I wanted to be Jon Pertwee. I didn't want to be Luke Skywalker or Zach Morris from Saved by the Bell. I am sure people of all ages will fall in love with Peters doctor if he is well written. That's all that matters. Doctor Who attracted the Twilight and Harry Potter brigade...it never pandered to them. It just happened. Why should they cater for that demographic of kids on the internet who spend too much time on tumblr or any other niche group? Moffat has proven he cares more about the quality of the actor and getting the right guy rather than appeasing focus groups and shallow concerns about being able to sell the show to teenyboppers.
Bravo Moffat.

Yes, I am pleased, although still in disbelief they went ahead and cast him He is a fine actor, I am hoping he will have decent material to perform with.

Yes, but there are a couple of slightly younger actors I would have cast ahead of him.
Plenty of worse choices mentioned though.

Yes.

Hopefully Clara will last a year and then the 12th Doctor can get a new female assistant played by a 30 something actress whom is also a damn good actress like Anna Friel or Katherine Kelly.

Without a doubt, but give him some decent scripts, the last series was a pile of cack mainly.

I think so, yeah. He's a good versatile actor and I think he'll be good with the darker elements of Doctor Who. He can be callous and intimidating when threatening the baddies.

Yes! Amazing.

And the kids will fancy him anyway. Alan Rickman, anyone?

I'm impressed they were able to get hold of such a respected actor with a solid career behind him. I'm sure between all of them, they'll be able to find an interpretation that works.

I think the most interesting speculation is what that direction is going to be, if it's totally different to Matt as they say.

I like contrast, and on that basis alone Capaldi is a fine choice

I just hope the writing will be up to scratch. I'm in the camp who thought the last series was 'patchy'.

Moffat's scripts were among the better examples, admittedly...

Yes good choicve. Makes a change to have older Doctor. He reminds me of a cross between Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker.
