I even registered after years of lurking to make my case!
I thought she was cool, chill and likeable in the early days. More than just a model and, though into her looks, was approachable and gave everyone the time of day. Never acted above anyone due to her looks. Also dealt calmly and maturely with certain situations e.g. Charlie putting her foot in it about Hazel's ex who died. As annoying as Dan could be, he was certainly a good judge of character, and it think it says something about her that he showed unwavering loyalty to her all the way through, even when he discovered she was unpopular and could be harmful by association.
Then there was the Daley romance situation. I think she let herself down here, only because her flirtation was at times a little desperate. I think she needs to see that she has a lot to offer, beyond her looks. In her defence, I think she was just bored and wanted some fun - what is BB for after all? (As an aside, have we even seen two housemates kiss this series? This is all so tame compared to say, Makosi with Anthony in the pool back in the day.)
I don't see why she should be vilified for the Daley girlfriend situation. It was Daley's call to say whether he wanted to continue the relationship or not, if anyone should be vilified it is him. And at times he was claiming that he was single. Why isn't Dexter vilified for ditching his girlfriend in pursuing Charlie? He is a favourite - clearly a sexist double standard among the public that I would like to see challenged with a turnaround for Hazel.
Also let's remember that she was VOTED INTO THE SAFEHOUSE. Like a good housemate, she flirted with a little spice in the house. The producers and public wanted some action in there, yet Hazel (and not Daley) is vilified for delivering the goods.
Regarding the 'aggressive' situation, she didn't play the victim which I thought was honourable, considering that she did consider it to be 'playfighting' in the moment. She didn't badmouth Daley (though I wouldn't blame her if she did) and didn't brand him a villain for her gain, choosing to move on without fussing or even telling to housemates until she was forced into it. Not attention seeking and not one for fuelling the house with drama or idle gossip.
I also respect her A LOT for not becoming a walker. So many others have walked for far less. Compare her with say, Orlaith from BB6, also a model. Hazel is everything Orlaith was not. Naturally beautiful, intelligent and holds her head high, refusing to crack under the pressure. And especially knowing that there must be a huge furore outside over Daley's removal with her at the centre, I respect her for having the guts to see it through to the end. Even with all the shit thrown at her last week with the gunging, the ranking and the snake outfit. Even with BB hanging her out to dry, she showed she's a tough cookie and not a quitter, despite not enjoying it much with her best friend Dan gone and little stimulation from anyone else.
Finally, I find Hazel to be one of the nicest in the house, with no outward nastiness and no hidden agenda. She put up with childish, one-sided nastiness from Gina and rarely seemed to let it phase her, even going out of her way to carry on being civil to Gina and engaging with her (see the scene where Gina dressed Charlie from the closet - Hazel is heard in the background trying to get involved and complimenting Gina but Gina just ignores her). Has she ever been actively and outwardly nasty like Gina? Has she ever goaded anybody like Dexter did to Callum? (I do like Gina and Dexter by the way - but I find it strange that, say, Gina is a hero for 'keeping it real' with her irrational hatred of Hazel, while Hazel, who is more dignified, is unpopular.) Is Hazel desperate to be liked and to win like Charlie? No. She has said openly that she would like to win and could use the money, but doesn't expect it. She is honest about wanting more modelling work afterwards. She doesn't talk shit. She doesn't even bitch much really, nothing like the bitching and two-facedness from many of the others. She has dealt with the public reaction to her commendably well.
Overall, I am amazed that she has been so level-headed and resilient throughout this whole thing. She's gotten involved, she's been interesting, and she hasn't meant any harm towards anyone. She is, on the whole, well liked by her housemates and hasn't done anything nasty, unlike many others. I am probably unrealistic in hoping she wins, but I do hope she exits to cheers. I'll be voting for her repeatedly as she's a nice girl - and girls should be supported and celebrated more in Big Brother.
Sorry for the essay, just had to put that out there! Wonder if anyone will agree!
