In what way was that post misogynistic? I thought it was anything but.

Or William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, etc. etc. etc. None of us like change, but we adapt if the story is interesting.

I'd be very interested to know in what way you found it misogynistic. I'm genuinely surprised at your reaction.

I can't explain another posters thoughts, but I have to say there seem to be more people going on about how the fangirls are upset than there are upset fangirls!

On tumblr I've only noticed positive things, many of the girls who make artsy gifs for the previous doctors already have Capaldi ones up, on a forum I frequent that has a fairly young and mostly female base there are only positive comments on the thread about him, a fairly young female vlogger I sub to on YT has a cute little Capaldi cartoon up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIzEgax3nOQ

I'm sure there are isolated outbreaks of flouncing but I'm just not seeing the mass fangirl flounce that people are talking about!

Oh, and here's his Mumsnet AT http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_bei...di-Yes-I-would

By in large Jerrica men don't like early teen girls playing with their toys,

Just imagine how upset these adults must be having to read such terrible stuff on twitter and YouTube, really our hearts should bleed for them, the pain and hurt ...oh the horror Little Amy Lou in Texas isn't going to watch the show anymore... I bet she got an ear full from proper fans on you tube. Yayyyyyy

Strange that Matt Smith is hot posts were perfectly fine when he was the Doctor, these weren't fan girls then.

Why are some even remotely concerned about what an extremely small minority of kids online think is beyond me.

But of course the online buzz around the show is all down to dour middle aged men in stupid hats and toe curling 'hangouts'
Those screams you hear at events like com con, that's all middle aged men that is.

So this divide and conquer sort of thread isn't really anything that should be celebrated.”

You both summed it up nicely, I absolutely agree.

Ultimately people can watch or not based on whatever they feel just like any other programme. I think with each new actor the show probably loses some viewers but gains some too.

I think you need to check on the definition of misogyny again. There is nothing misogynistic about that post. Quite the reverse.

Perhaps it was a reaction to the last sentence of the posting in question?

I'm sure Mrs Capaldi will be very offended that you don't find her husband sexy! And a lot of younger women do date or marry much older men don't forget.
When Tom Baker was in the show my schoolfriend (aged 15) loved him and bought a hat and scarf from Biba!

Says who?

So what if a small handful of girls on the internet stop watching the show, they wont but that's what kids tend to use the internet for..on the moment knee jerk reactions..much like adults do in fact...hence this very thread.

What about new viewers that Peter Capalidi will bring, do you think there will be NO new viewers that will tune in just because of the actor?

Yep, kids tend to be immature, funny that, especially teen girls when it comes to celeb crushes.

How many are leaving by the way, what is the exudes count up to.

I thought Donna was quite attractive actually. She wasn't exactly a pin up model, I'll grant you that, but she was still a very fine looking woman.

Having said that I don't really care what the companion looks like. Obviously it is nice if they happen to be good looking but I don't see it as a must. It's the ability of the actress in question and the characterisation that's the most important bit. A pretty face is just a bonus.

So they could cast a 50 year old woman as a companion if they so wished, I wouldn't care.

Even I am slightly shocked by that!

Does this mean we will get a "I want Peter Capaldi's babies Club" thread after all?

Verity Lambert - 55 year old doctor to launch the show = 50 year running hit.

What is the fuss about?

Peter Capaldi is much more attractive than William Hartnell.

Very shallow thread that presumes any women that watch this show do so only to see a hot doctor.

Most do not. They hope for good acting and scripts which I suspect we have an improved chance of now getting.

Hottness is a bonus but no more/less important to the show than any male viewers turning off if they do not fancy the companion. Who was presumably usually made attractive to men by total coincidence.

no one said Matt Smith was fit when he started... but after 3 seasons of watching him, he becomes fit. Same with Ecclestone and Tennant. But I like the show so would have watched it regardless. I don't fancy Peter Capaldi at all, but no doubt after binge watching a season or 2 of his - I will do. I think its the Philip Glinister effect.

So do the fan girls start watching because of a fit lead, or are they fans of the show who then fancy the lead, mention it and get labelled fan girls?

oh and for the record, I never once fancied Sylvester Mccoy. I may have been 12 years old, but I would like that on record.
