Shallow, yes. Maybe even ageist. But misogynistic? I don't think so.

I shall await that poster's clarification with interest.

Some of the comments on here are misogynistic and ignorant in the extreme.”

What's so fanciable about 10? I have asked this question before and i was told that people loved the character. David Tennant is definitely not unattractive but neither is he stunning. I thought Paul McGann and Peter Davidson back in the day were 'pretty'. Other than that I think that the only guy who's played the doctor who would make you look twice if they walked into a bar is Christopher Eccleston. He has very strong striking facial features, and he's only 7 years older than David Tennant.

Tennant is what I call alluring. People do fancy his personality of 10, or even just Tennant's warm personality in general. It's more about his body language and his gestures than his looks from an objective pov. I suppose I feel the same way about Bill Muray's character in Ghostbusters. Murray isn't exactly Denzel Washington facially, but his characters are always hillarious

Most people didn't find CE attractive but I thought he had a sharp face and profile. While PC is what I'd call average-certainly not ugly, he does have a presence about him. I've only seen him in DW and Torchwood but have now watched a few episodes of The Thick of It and he does have a presence and intensity there. I really hope the PTB let him keep his accent-Moffat is a Scot, after all.

I'd would just like to have been a fly on the wall of the BBC meetings to discuss the new doctor. The PTB have to had known there would be discussions about his age and that he wouldn't have the sex appeal to younger viewers that the last two Doctors have had. Yet they still went for him rather than a cheaper and younger Doctor. To my mind, it means that his audition tape must have impressed them enough. What I really hate is those who say he can't run. I've known many men who jog regularly into their 70s so who's to say Twelve won't be chasing down Macra next season?

You haven't seen some of the CE forums and tumblr pics that I've come across. He has a big fan base himself.

I forgot to mention Matt. Personally I don't find him at all attractive as the doctor, but he looks so much better with it short. I think both he and Chris look better with cropped hair, but maybe that's just me

To answer the original question. "No". Stuff 'em in a pastry case and glaze 'em.

Each to their own. So far (and I don't see it changing with 12), 10 is the only Doctor I ever found attractive. Funnily enough I've seen David Tennant in loads of other stuff and not really found him that attractive at all. So it's not a DT obsession, in my case. Did I watch Doctor Who when DT was the Doctor JUST because I found him attractive? No, absolutely not - but it WAS a nice bonus!! Did I stop watching DW when Matt Smith took over just because I didn't find him attractive - No, that would be shallow indeed.

I have never watched Doctor Who to drool over the Doctor, I watch it because I love the show, and will continue to do so in the future, no matter who is playing the part.

Yes, I agree. Would I stop watching "Doctor Who"
if they cast a woman who didn't look like a glamour
model for the companion? Of course not.

There's no such thing as a "true" or "proper" Who fan.
If they watch the show, that's enough for me, couldn't care less why they're watching it, we're all Who fans under the same banner and if some clueless Eastenders fan or some other member of society takes some cheap shot at our show, we'll all stand together anyway.

So this divide and conquer sort of thread isn't really anything that should be celebrated.”

Agree if only it were true that we'd all stand together. Sadly some divisions are too deep seated within certain fan types minds. If you were born in the 80s, according to some people on here, you can't possibly have a coherent opinion on classic who. Also, while I'm here, the world view of a lot of people on here seems quite narrow. Since when did girls only fancy boys and vice versa?

Yep fanboys are the "real" fans, they can do no wrong. Fangirls on the other hand...

The ones who will stop watching just because they cast a older Doctor are just as idiotic as the ones who would stop watching if the Doctor was female or black

I see anyone who would stop watching just because they didn't get what they wanted as equally idiotic the fangrls who stop watching because they cast a older Doctor and that includes getting a female or black Doctor

I thought Christopher Ecclestone was a brilliant choice to bring the series back. Tennant though was the game changer because he became a kind of pop star and seemed to revel in the role outside the show as well as in it. The point being that every new incarnation will be compared to him more than anyone else.
Its a gamble with Capaldi because with Ecclestone Tennant and Smith the show looked and felt youthful. Capaldi at 55 is bound to bring a different feel-it remains to be seen how much the demographics are affected and the overall audience levels. There will be big audiences for the 50th and regeneration stories, the test will be two or three episodes into the following series.
It will be fascinating to see what kind of relationship exists between the Doctor and Clara, presented as she is with middle age rather than youth. Will it be more John Pertwee -Jo Grant?

What everyone is forgetting is the show is a drama first....led by a lead actor.

We've been lucky in that, personal preferences aside, they haven't cast a bad actor since 1987...I don't think Capaldi is going to change that run either.

The show is going to be just fine

I must disagree to a point. They haven't had a bad Doctor since 1963. Peter Davison was my least favorite, but that's a personal issue
