i went to a movie premiere two years ago and, i dont think the camera or memory card is here anymore, my pictures and videos were saved on my brother in laws computer but the computer was bit messed up so he rebooted or did something to it and now the pictures and video are gone

i told him never to delete them as well until i put them on a disk so i dont think he did it on purpose, but is there any hope of recovering the pictures?

its an acer computer.

You can download the portable version of Recuva to a memory stick/flash drive on a different computer and run it on the Acer.
Click on recuva/download/portable.
You shouldn't download anything on the Acer as it may overwrite what you are looking for.

I suppose you have done a search on the Acer for pictures and videos.

Everybody, after 3...

1.. 2.. 3..

You should've backed up things sooner/have a backup plan in place more regularly etc.

If you were bothered about it you had 2 years to get it sorted

But it wasn't my computer, I didn't have access to one at the time and his computer was his responsibility. He gave his camera away and has got his memory cards some where in his house.

You said 'i told him never to delete them as well until i put them on a disk'

If you wanted to keep them they should have been backed up ages ago.

I just hope that you can get them back and that you have learnt an important lesson about backing up anything you want to keep. It's so important.

Yes I get that but Im not down his everyday and I have my own life he has his, so I can't keep checking and making sure its still there. maybe he forgot I told not to delete them but he has. I'm not that technology savvy and I thought he would've done all the backing up, as I said he handles his computer, I don't know what he's doing or not doing.

You didn't need to do that, just should've made a backup copy if what you wanted on a couple of discs two years ago, then you wouldn't have this situation. If they meant that much to you it's bizarre you just left things.

For now, though, Recuva.

You should look into Flickr for backing up the photos or something like ipernity
And upload when you put your memory stick in.
On these sites you can then see them on any PC to.

The computer may be his, but your data is your responsibility.

A USB flash drive can be picked up for a couple of quid and potentially hold thousands of photos. You also have options like Dropbox meaning you could store them online and access them from anywhere.

Data should always be considered disposable by default. If you have anything you cant afford to loose then you should take the time to back it up.
