I stopped watching it when Clara appeared. She's just totally wrong for the show. Amy Pond rules.

Care to elaborate?

I think, when Jenna's time to leave comes, I hope the Doctor takes her back to Victorian times to live out the rest of her life with the family that lost that version of her. It'd be a bit like leaving Rose with 10.5!

Wouldn't be surprised if something does happen in the middle or end of S8 next year causing Claras exit. After losing his family all 3 ponds hope there is not more tragedy. Clara should either fall in love or just decide to go back to her life on earth. She could wish the doctor well and thank him for what he did for her. It is suppose to be getting darker though. So anything could happen next year.

I'm not going to sneer at them for that. I've been keen on having an older Doctor, and I'm glad they've done it, especially as they've picked Peter Capaldi, who I think is a terrific actor. But if some of the much-maligned fangirls are unhappy, why not give them something else to keep them enjoying the show?”

Because it's so lazy. Meaningful gazes between potential shagmates take up so much airtime.

I think it would be fab if PC was like a father figure to CO, and we lose the flirting for just one season!

Bit unfair to Clara's Father?

I'm hoping the change of Doctor will result in a more realistic rapport between Clara and 12. The quick quip dialogue that was fired back and forth between her and 11 quickly grew tiresome.

Makes sense to me. After all, a thing between the Doctor and the companion is silly because we all know which character will be leaving the TARDIS after a season or two. And anyone who thinks the Doctor has to be fanciable eye-candy just doesn't get it.

We never really got chance to see how Clara got on with Matt Smith - there was so much dipping and diving through her other selves in time - and the 'Impossible girl' thingy! We've never seen her as 'normal' Clara yet have we? I don't think it will be any different in the next two stories to come TBH.
I think it will calm down with PC in the new series....and get back to some normality. (I bloody hope!)

Well...when I say 'Normal' - you know what I mean, surely. No more timey-wimey crap!! and sonic-screwdriver cop-outs!! Do you understand what I'm saying now ?
Doctor Who is NEVER normal, I agree. That is how it should be. But some of the recent past couple of years episodes have proved DIFFERENT!

Did I express myself badly? I thought I made it crystal clear I wasn't talking about potential shagmates and flirting.

The show has to write for a wide section of the public - and not every one in that public sees it as lazy or taking up too much airtime. Will they/won't they and subtle romance is popular! Look at Kat and Alfie in their heyday on Eastenders, Mulder and Scully and yes, Rose and the Doctor. It's easy to hear a small section of online fans tell everyone how hated it was but in the wider public it wasn't - it was part of the reason Who took off and became so popular.

I can't see how it took up too much airtime - it was a handful of looks and dialogue. It wasn't as if they were kissing every episode or around the back of the TARDIS. It was hints at a close bond and whatever kind of love people wanted to label it as they could.

I wouldn't mind a male companion as long as he had some backbone. Also, no more love triangles in the TARDIS, please.

I agree with this. Like the audience, the show needs to evolve in order to maintain its appeal. What worked 50 years ago won’t necessary work now. Although I personally hated 10 and Rose romance and wished it never happened, I know that romance is something that drew the viewers in and contributed greatly to the appeal of New Who with a large part of the audience.

I do however think that Clara should absolutely remain in the show. The character hasn’t had a proper chance to develop. She has not even been in it for a whole series. It is a shame the Ponds usurped so much of 11th's reign. They should have left ages ago together with River, and Clara should have had a full series with Matt’s doctor. That is a shame as I really liked 11 and Clara’s dynamic.

However the dynamic between the 12th doctor and Clara will be very interesting, more like a father (grandfather) daughter relationship, and I will be very interested in seeing it develop.
Whether they introduce a love interest for Clara or not doesn’t bother me, but I appreciate that some romance is what a significant proportion of the audience want to see, not necessary a doctor companion romance though.

Then there is the additional factor that Clara has seen all of the different Doctor's while in the time stream, saving the Doctor and being saved by the Doctor, which will naturally bring them together, not in a romantic way, but one that should bring them together as friends in mutual respect, similar as combat does with the military.

I don't see why the Ponds should have left ages ago. They were terrific companions - and far from the longest serving companions the show's had. As for usurping - a rather perjorative term - the 11th doctor's reign, it's not unknown for a Doctor to have the same companion for a lot of his time - Jamie was with the Second Doctor for all but one story, and Tegan and Peri were with the Fifth and Sixth Doctors for all but two. Not to mention that Rose was with the Ninth Doctor for his entire reign.

There's not exactly a shortage of shows where romance is a big factor - just about any soap, drama, detective/mystery series, etc etc. It would be nice if Who was free of it just for a short time? After all if they are meant to try and cater for all audiences, not everyone wants lovey-dovey. especially with a 900+ year age difference. There's friendship and just liking to be around another person. good-looking or not, as well and life does settle down sometimes even when you're quite young

I've a theory that, for the Doctor at least, there's an element of telepathy involved in regeneration. The next incarnation is molded in some way to better suit those around him. Matt Smiths was guided firstly by the Tardis being on the blink and secondly by the fact that the first human he met was Amy Pond. Which is why he became the kind of overgrown child he is now. Unfortunately Amy grew up and he didn't.
Now given a companion that will have at least some idea of how truly old the Doctor is and can be and it's almost inevitable that his next incarnation will reflect that.
