Oh that's good. Now we'll just wait for all the complaints about it not being available on G1 boxes.

Oh and as for the promo vid, 'This video is private'

Now all the promised players are now available, hopefully a Netflix announcement won't be too far away.

Don't blame those with G1 boxes complaining.

Freesat did mention a few years back that was to be available on freesat.

They made no reference that it would only be on <freetime> boxes.

Those with <freetime> boxes also have the right to complain, as it was to be available in Dec 2013.

Now perhaps freesat will concentrate on rolling out ITV player for the rest...... three years late.

I think that Dec 2013 is a typo.
Rolling out the ITV player to the rest is not something freesat can do. For G1 units it down to the manufacturer.

I AM the owner of a G1 box, and personally I couldn't care less about whether 4od and Demand5 are available on it. None of the catch-up services on those old boxes is particularly good, iPlayer isn't great quality and I'd go as far to say that ITV Player is appalling.

Things move on and those old boxes simply aren't good enough for today's better standards, it's about time people got over it tbh. And anyone still waiting who does get ITV Player on their G1 equipment is in for a big disappointment when it finally arrives.

G1 box users are being left out in the dark, that's why I very rarely watch TV via Freesat since I got Youview. It's got all the main demand players that i use a lot. Shame really as Freesat was my main way of watching TV at one time. Doubt they will give G1 boxes anything new software wise.

The older boxes aren't capable of displaying the new-style user interface, but are quite capable of decoding high quality video delivered over the internet. The 1280x720p50 3D test feeds were available via iPlayer on Freesat G1 boxes. AFAIK this is the highest quality video that the BBC has ever delivered to consumers via the internet, albeit on a test basis, and it was on G1 Freesat boxes.

Apart from the iPlayer HD feeds, I wouldn't class any of the PSB catch-up video on Freetime or YouView boxes as "high quality". Unless I'm mistaken, the iPlayer SD feeds are higher quality on Freesat G1 boxes than on Freetime or YouView boxes.

Cheers,
David.

You could say exactly the same thing about pre Youview Freeview+ pvrs. You had to upgrade to a new box, so do pre G2 Freesat box owners if they want the freetime service.

I didn't have to Upgrade, I was just one of the luck ones..

What I am trying to say is G1 boxes were just forgotten about by Freesat and the manufacturers the day the G2 boxes went on sale. It's like Ford fetching a new model out and not bothering to make parts for an older model...

The Humax ones aren't forgotten, maintenance support is still promised. The Olympic Red Streams are an example. A fix was required to record these.

Just like a car they should continue to work with the current services and should changes be required to support these they will happen.

If you bought a TV without a DVB-T2 tuner for HD would you expect a retro upgrade to watch live UK HD Freeview TV. Not a chance

The new catch up satellite Freesat services use HTML5. The older boxes don't have HTML5 capability.

I didn't know that, although I never use the iPlayer on the old freesat box so wouldn't have seen it anyway.

Can't speak for Freetime or Youview, but the SD quality on iPlayer through my Humax FoxT2 (Freeview) is superior to the SD on iPlayer through the G1 Foxsat, and is why I only use the FoxT2 for iPlayer viewing.

Yes you are mistaken, the MHEG version of BBCiPlayer on G1 boxes is nowhere near as good as the Adobe Flash version on the <Free Time> boxes.

Reference ?

I only ever remember iplayer and itv player being promised. As usual both arrived on Humax boxes. Failure to deliver the software/hardware is down to the box/TV makers.

in 2011, there were ending there email/press releases with:-

Freesat is a subscription-free satellite TV service offering digital television to everyone in the UK. It offers more than 150 TV, radio and interactive channels, including free HD services from ITV, the BBC and Channel 4; Freesat+ to record, pause and rewind; BBC iPlayer, ITV Player with 4OD and Demand 5 coming soon; all for free.

The July 2011 press release of ITV player http://www.freesat.co.uk/files/8413/...ch_release.pdf clearly displays this tag-line.

and those seeing http://community.freesat.co.uk/t5/im...v=mpbl-1&px=-1 are still waiting. Now perhaps freesat will deliver after three years+ delay

yes, the failure to deliver may be to blame the manufacturer, but advertising is teh responsibility of freesat.

I do have a "G1" box, but the main over air channels and general operation are my main concern, the catch up stuff is just a bonus service. I use the PC (connected to the tv) for catch up anyway and that's much better.
