The difference between Angie Watts & Peggy Mitchell
Angie felt "chained" to the Vic but treated the customers like valued members of the community.
Peggy considered the Vic to be Buckingham Palace and treated the customers like minions. In other words, Angie even when she was a drunken wreck had more to offer Albert Square than the acerbic little troll ever did. |

Angie Watts was a far better character than Peggy Mitchell could ever dream of being. Not only was the character of Angie better written but Anita Dobson is probably the best actress ever to appear in EastEnders. The only similarities between them is that they were both landladies of The Queen Vic.

People forget Sharon had the biggest obsession with the pub and it was a huge reason she had problems in her marriage to Grant. She made it a condition of marriage and there was scenes were he would say what do you love more me or the pub? After her father died (first time) it became even more obsessive they new writers would forget this later on.
Peggy's exit were she heard all the voices was a rip off from Sharons 1995 exit. Angie was a real soul of the Vic and she loved people/customers and in turn they loved her. With the exception of Jan (and to be fair she was sleeping with her husband) she was always kind to those in the pub despite having an awful home life. She and Den brought Sharon up to believe she was never in the wrong (sound familiar parenting) and taught Sharon a lesson we would later see that you put your face on and the face for the public is not the same as the face for upstairs. As much as I love Peggy she knew got the pub the way these 2 did. |

It sticks in my craw that Sharon is slumming it at the tacky B&B and doing part time shifts at the grotty R&R while her beloved pub is being run by that annoying idiot Alfie Moon. But I guess our opinions don't count since we're not part of the demographic EastEnders is alleged to appeal to by the BBC:yawn: |

Angie was the life and soul of the Vic. People would tune in to see her and Den. It was brilliant when Den and Angie were running the Vic.
Peggy was a good landlady ans I liked the Mitchells being in the Vic but I never really understood why she was so obsessed with it but I understood Sharon's love for the Vic. Sharon used to be so iconic. She's like a completely different person this time around. As well as poor writing and acting, she doesn't care about the Vic anymore. It holds so many memories for her and now she just treats it like its just another pub. She's mentioned so many times in her previous stints that its the only place that's ever felt like home so maybe that's why she doesn't have a proper home at the moment. |

Love Angie, fragile, ballsy, vunerable, fiesty, bat wing jumpers & shoulder pads, smiling & cheery with an 'Allo Darhlin' on one hand and crying in to a G n T on the other. Infectious giggle, always the 'Downstairs face' in public. Dancing with Den in the bar
![]() When Den and Angie were good, they were cracking landlords & heart and soul. (Kat and Alfie could be similar if the upstairs faces stayed upstairs, but Kat was always having a go at him) Peggy, hmm never worked with frank in the vic, although Archie Mitchell was a bloody good leading man for Peggy and its a shame they killed him off, elder debonaire charm but master manipulator but .... Its Den & Angie for me, no one who has run it since has come close, not even saint sharon & grunt, (although i love grunt but don't tell anyone )

Angie was part of the community. She may have been the landlady of The Queen Vic but she didn't put herself above her punters. She was their friend. Peggy acted like she was better than everyone else and lorded it over the square. It was never explained why Peggy was so obsessed with The Vic but if I had to come up with an explanation I'd say it's because it made her feel important. Angie knew she was no better than anyone else. That's the difference.

I didn't shed tears when Den plopped into the canal but I really felt bereaved when Angie traded Walford for Spain.

Didnt Den flee to Spain after he got shot and lived there for 14 years?
What are the chances of not crossing paths? And Spain is far bigger than the UK, so even if she had stayed she would easily not seen him. |

You know I always blame John Yorke for killing Angie off.
Anita did say she probably wouldn't have returned as she was worried the legacy of Angie would be tarnished and wanted her remembered for what she did in those three years. However she did say around the time of Strictly that the idea of returning did interest her. They maybe should have tried one of those spin offs they were doing regularly in the early 00s. Instead of killing her just to bring Sharon back again. |
