Like, I never understood the hate. His acting was average for the little chance got, I actually believe there was some potential.

By and large he was harmless and a non-entity, with the exception of that god awful cringefest 'summer of moons'

He was quite terrible at times. His intro was just cringey and the day after he woke up in the Vic covered in lipstick to show he was a ladies man. Then 3 women he scorned from west London went to the bother of tracking him down to slap him once each. That was also cringeworthy. Then they tried to portray him as hot-headed but instead he looked like a lunatic as he lost his temper at the drop of a hat a couple of times and then never again until the couple of scraps with Chewbacca. Then when Eddie wanted him and Ant to leave with himself and Craig, Tyler wouldnt go because Whitney (who he had been seeing for a couple of weeks) was suddenly his soulmate. Then about 2 weeks later they split and didnt get back together till after Pat's funeral some 6 months later. It was just bad writing and bad charaterisation and not great acting right from the off with him. As another poster already said, the idea of the character was good on paper but poorly executed on screen.

I was very anti Tyler I admit but like David Witts who plays Joey it was more about the Acting for me- Tony could not act.

I personally think that Anthony was the worst out of the two, and Tyler was just labelled as bad because of Eddie and Anthony's time on the show. He lasted the longest, after all. I think Tyler was okay, there was just nowhere to go with him.

Interestingly, the only episode I liked with him was his last – and that was mainly for pulling the wool over Danny’s eyes. Other than that he failed on several levels – no long terms plans, an unbelievable love story with Whitney and a naff rivalry with Michael.

I just thought he was very mediocre. He seemed uncapable of displaying any emotion. The original plan was obviously for him to be an aggressive Alpha male with an eye for the ladies. This stopped immediately. They then tried to hype him and Whitney up as the next big couple, which again failed miserably.
I prefer Joey Branning by far to Tyler. |

Which sums up what's wrong with Eastenders leaving it too late to give characters like him really good scenes, also for the first time in ages he actually had scenes with his cousins.basically Eastenders destroyed his character before he got started..
Personally, I didn't mind the character at all. When he first arrived on the show in his first few weeks, he acted way OTT and TPTB tried too hard to make him a ladies man, but after that he settled down. I found him rather inoffensive and likeable - especially compared to Joey "Chewbacca" Branning. He is by far worse than Tyler with his atrocious diction and his obnoxious characterization. And as you said, his exit episode was actually good and he had some good scenes with Alfie and Michael. That's what I don't get - why did they wait so long to give him some scenes with his family? Most of the time, it felt like he had no family on the Square. The issue with the character wasn't strictly bad writing - it was more like neglect on the part of the writers who gave him nothing to do (same goes for Ray). I also hated how they made Whitney the sole focus of his character - which was ultimately his downfall. A badly-managed character from start to end. |

He was never that bad, he was just never given a good enough story line to show us how good of an actor Tony was, making people impatient and bored of the character. Tyler was a far better character than Anthony!

Yeah he was to be honest. The character was one big walking cliche, "a cheeky chappy with an eye for the ladies". We've seen it done a million times before and there was nothing unique or interesting about it that Tyler was offering. He wasn't really convinving as a hardman either, which i heard the writers were trying to mold him into.
Joey isn't really that much better (Probably worse actually, all things considered) |

I dont think there is anything wrong with the actor... it was the storylines for him. These Moon brothers were never really developed beyond that initial storyline where Michael tries to destroy his family.
I think the writers of EE wanted to show us why Michael was so twisted and what lengths he would go to to get revenge on his dad, Eddie. Tyler and Anthony were simply characters created to aid that one storyline. Beyond that they became redundant arm candy for the girls. Not the actors fault at all. The writers should have had some foresight and had plans for both characters beyond Michael's revenge., its their fault. |

He wasn't that bad no. There have been far, far worse characters. I actually liked the Moon famiy, they could have been great, but Eddy and Craig left and the writers seemed to forget Tyler and Anthony were related to Michael and the writing was pretty poor for them all (although Michael has been fantastic.)

When are TPTB gonna stop casting these 'pretty boy' morons and get some real actors in. New Dr Who anyone??

I'm pretty sure he was cast on looks (doesn't appeal to me in the slightest but apparently he's meant to be a pretty boy) - as he hasn't shown any great acting ability. That said, Joey Branning makes him look like Laurence Olivier.
