If they ever bring a dead character back again (which they won't) it has to be a character the general public would know and who would have a huge impact on the rest of the characters. There's no point doing it otherwise. They could have got away with Cindy or Kathy at one point in time but I think too much time has passed for either to be believable now. The actresses are also in other soaps so it's just not going to happen. Angie is really the only character who died off screen who'd make any impact but she's definitely dead. Sharon nursed her in her final days would have no reason to lie about Angie's death. None of the other off screen dead are worth going to the trouble of bringing back.

Personally I'm glad they brought Dirty Den back. Fair enough it ended up being a disaster in the end but his initial comeback really worked and the critics lapped it up at the time. It's a crying shame they had a lack of storylines for him and the actor disgraced himself in the media but none of that changes the excellent week of episodes when he returned as well as quite a few other classic moments like his feud with Phil, his showdown with Dennis, getting The Vic back from the Mitchells and Christmas 2004. I thoroughly enjoyed the 20th anniversary episode which featured Den's death and the ensuing murder storyline which dominated the rest of the year. Den's return was far from the abject failure it's made out to be despite it's flaws.

What sort of mother do you think Kathy was - would she really swan off and leave her son apparently alone in the world, to be sent back to Walford and raised by the Mitchells ???

She loathed Phil by the time she left. The last thing she would do is 'play dead' and place her son in Phil's power.

A ludicrous suggestion.”

Precisely. As is the suggestion that Dennis is alive and in witness protection () when we saw him die.

The same could be said for Cindy - the woman who fought tooth and nail to keep her kids wouldn't stay away this long to let them be raised by Ian, whom she so despises!!
