Only it's been three days since he was announced as the new Doctor and I'm surprised he hasn't told the media his plan to quit!

Hurry up, Pete!

Given his devotion to the show and his apparent frustration at the parts offered to him till recently, I can't see him ever resigning. Sorry Ray

Though it's unlikely to happen, I would love to see Capaldi break Tom Baker's record and stay at least 8 years just to seriously annoy you.......

I think if there's one man who wouldn't mind being typecast as The Doctor, it's Peter Capaldi. He'll probably want to stay in the role until he is no longer physically able.

Has Ray Smith stopped making idiotic threads about Peter Capaldi yet?

I hope he's not going to carry on until he goes back to school in September!

The OP is a 14 year old!

He'll be long-lasting, I'm sure: he's a lifelong fan, and he's already had a massive career, so the whole "I have to leave now to capitalise on the fame" isn't going to be the same issue it - understandably - was with Tennant and Smith.

How utterly pathetic. If you don't like Peter Capaldi, fine. Although, I don't know how you came to this conclusion, seeing as none of us know how he is going to play the 12th.
Why don't you stop watching Doctor Who, as you obviously are going to detest every minute of the next series. You know Big Brother is on at the moment, that's more you're level I think. So why don't you stick to that sort of rubbish, and let the rest of us enjoy whats coming. Believe it or not, no one cares about your petty hate campaign against someone you haven't seen in action yet.

Beat me to this.

He's at the stage in his career where he probably doesn't worry about being typecast. I expect him to stay a while, I doubt he'll beat Tom Baker's record (I'm not sure it's good for the programme if anyone stays that long) but I can see him matching Pertwee's 5 years.

I agree. I think 7 years is far too long for a show which is about change, but 5 is about right.

So series 12 to air in 2018 or 2019 wonder if they will cast a 13th doctor. Some people are really superstisous about that number!. I'm not one of them. However it will be interesting to see if he will be the last doctor. From what we saw in NOTD his time is running out. Hopefully he will have some fun and laughs before he makes his second and final journey back to trenzalore!.
