I thought Rawham wrote a fair and well-balanced post - I guess that makes me a foaming racist as well.

And I was happy Bez won, so I'm also a low-life druggie scum according to another thread.

Hurrah! I'm having a good day.

I think the fact we`ve not had a black winner (YET!) is down to the contestants and their character.......nothing to do with racism.

I think Victor stood a reasonable chance of winning BB5 until he had the wedding day arguement with pathetic Shell. That changed a lot of people`s views on him.

How many coloured people are there in the UK? What's the percentage? It'll be higher in the south than in the north. Here in Scotland there's actually still very few black people indeed, quite a few asians I suppose. Considering there have only been 5 proper big brothers, I dont think one in 5 in UK is coloured, it will be less than that. So it is not statistically significant that there have been no coloured winners yet.

The original post is offensive and ignorant.

Yes, but as far I understood the ones complaining elsewhere would be referred to (at least in recent US movies) in the USA as afro-americans.

That really would depend on whether you are referring to black people, Asians, mixed-race people or gingers*

Here's a thought: why not just drop the entire subject?

*nb I am one. So I can say that. Ner.

Nadia was tanned I think. If you saw pictures of him pre-op he looked quite pale (and stubbly).

The ones running here in Scotland into the tanshops would be called orange, maybe I ment them ?

Look the main point is there is less than 20% coloured people in the UK so you cant expect to have had a winner yet! It gets beyond a joke when coloured people (particularly black people I have noticed) start complaining about this sort of thing. Reality check time.

Somehow, I have come to terms with the stigma. That and some rather nice blonde highlights.

Hey... no ginger has ever won Big Brother! Maybe I should start my own thread!

When I'm born I'm BLACK!
When I'm hot I'm BLACK!
When I'm cold I'm BLACK!
When I'm sick I'm BLACK!
When I'm old I'm BLACK!
When I die I'm BLACK!
When U are born U are PINK!
When U are hot U are RED!
When U are cold U are BLUE!
When U are sick U get GREEN!
When U are old even GRAY!
When U die U become PURPLE!

Yet u got the nerve to call me coloured!

yeah, camaron was the first 'coloured' winner wasn't he - a sort of pale-blue/whitish??

still, this argument has no way out.

firstly it's political history & controversy and some religion that has caused a lot of racism, it has ingrained the word 'coloured' into a negative term for western society, to the point that you can't really use any term at all do describe someone's skin colour or their race/origin/background/creed without some kind of presumed intolerance. people need to be re-educated, i'm sure we've moved on since that set of issues first arose.

it's a similar issue as what's presently happening with the symbol of the swastika (hot potato!). people need re-educating.

secondly in a show like this - it is just an entertainment program whether rigged or not - some of the audience will complain that no 'coloured' people have won and what an issue this is, and some of the audience will say - when a 'coloured' person does win - that likewise it was a fix because endemol had to add this label to their portfolio. not unlike an hr manager being given their objectives of hiring x number of people of certain backgrounds (or race, or gender etc) and failing if it's not achieved.

i myself am of mixed background; both parents from the same race, but i was born & raised in another country and i'm living in a different country now. whilst my skin tone is caucasian/white i'm discriminated against due to my dialect, hence presumed race. it's the same discrimination, though people don't even have to engage in conversation to observe a 'coloured' person in order to make up their own little minds.

Why are people talking about racist when there is no evidence of this from the BB winners so far????????????????????

Talk about creating a problem where there isnt one.

If people wouldn't be so tightarsed about the subject asking about ginger or black would be the same and there would be no big deal. Even the musical "Hair" made a mockery of that with "I am pink" in the 70s. Nothing has moved on since then it appears.

What's wrong with refering to colours?

Sorry to nit-pick, but Hair originated in the 1960s. (Of course, they do say that, if you remember the 60s, you weren't there. )
