Great insight into his life - the ups and downs of the acting profession:

I think you could say he's won the acting lottery. He's got his dream role, the one he's always wanted to play. Quite an uplifting story.

Yes, read this in the paper yesterday.
When I worked for the BBC I worked on the post production of many film drama series that Peter Capaldi appeared in, and he was never less than great in every part I saw him play.
I must say I never knew he was a lifelong DW fan though!
So glad that like David Tennant before him, he's finally got his dream rôle!

I'm so pleased for him and so happy that he got the role of the Doctor.

After all that who could begrudge him getting the role this time?

There's wanting a black actor or a woman 'just because we haven't had one yet' and then there is giving someone a role that made him want to become an actor and one he has loved...in this world we need things like this to happen.

Well, if there was a black actor or an actress or anyone else who was better suited for the role... oh, wait, that's right - there isn't.

Although I was quite intrigued by Karen Gillan's suggestion that an animal could be the next Doctor.

1) I don't remotely begrudge him the role. Peter Capaldi is a wonderful actor and will do a great job.

2) I don't want a black actor or a woman just because we haven't had one but because there are some wonderful ethnically diverse and/or female actors out there would could really bring something new and exciting to the role.

I hope he stays in the role for years and years.

And it would seem a black actor turned down the role.

For some reason I think the next one would be really good as a black actor...especially if they were to be the start of the next regeneration loop...

They also said Capaldi wasn't second choice, so that must've been when they were casting one of the previous three.
