Video Networks doubles its broadband Internet speeds

HomeChoice customers to enjoy the benefits of faster surfing Video Networks Ltd. (VNL) today announced the upgrade of all three tiers of its broadband Internet services. As from 1st February 2005, HomeChoice customers will be automatically upgraded at no additional cost to their usual monthly subscription. The brand new HomeChoice Internet speeds will be as follows: • 512Kb customers will receive up to 1Mb • 1Mb customers will receive up to 2Mb • 2Mb customers will receive up to 4Mb Each broadband Internet service continues to come with the very best in digital TV, video-on-demand plus free evening and weekend phone calls, providing HomeChoice customers with the most comprehensive home entertainment solution on the market. The new Internet services will allow HomeChoice customers to enjoy ever faster file download speeds making it even easier to keep up with the latest music and movie files as well as continuing to enjoy superior online gaming. Roger Lynch, Chairman & CEO, Video Networks Ltd. said: “The HomeChoice Internet upgrades demonstrate the strength of our network and our commitment to the Internet market in addition to our digital TV, video-on-demand and telephony services. Video Networks is constantly looking for ways it can enhance its current suite of services to continue to provide a superb customer experience.” Existing HomeChoice customers will be notified of the automatic upgrades from 24th January via direct mail. Excellent news. I was beginning to doubt the value of our package....but 35quid a month for 4meg and tv is absolutely amazing. (i'm got the free upgrade offer!!)
can they afford this bandwidth because they are upgrading to mpeg 4?

It was an opening offer thingy - I got a free TV package upgrade for 3 months instead.

But having 2Mbps will be fun.

Not as much fun as my Sister's 100Mbps at UNI tho.

Yeah, i got my service in september. The promotion they were running then was Free upgrade to 2mb for a year. So i snapped it up. (originally i ordered without it, but there was such a delay for installation, that by that time it was ready for installation i rang and got this new promotion upgrade. Its much better than the promos at the moment.) Heres lookin forward to 4mb (though i doubt i'll get it that high, i was refused Bulldog before i ordered homechoice....mind u, they said the best i could get was 512kbs cos i was 3.5km from exchange....homechoice were fine givin me 2mb) ah well, we'll see

Only yesterday I was thinking how a mate who stayed with Blueyonder (who've recently upgraded their speeds, twice) seemed to be getting a pretty decent deal these days....and then this. Very nice

(although it's slightly odd that they haven't put this information on the 'existing customers' web page yet - surely they'd want it to be seen by as many people as possible?)

well, videonetworks just released the press release today, so it'll be a few days before it sees the light of day on good ol homechoice website.

I look forward to getting my letter in the post saying i'm being upgraded!!

It's a shame uplink speed doesn't improve, at least not as far as one can tell from the press release. With 284kb up and 4Mb down, the connection becomes heavily asymmetrical., as the A in ADSL suggests

For most people, though, an asymmetrical connection is fine. It's only the odd foew people who have a need, rather than a desire, for a faster upload speed.

You really can't complain though when you see cable upstream speeds.

Oh, I didn't mean to complain - I am quite happy with the present service, and the downstream upgrade is welcome.
A shame it is nonetheless. I could have done with faster uplink, but I couldn't even buy it (not from HC).

It does pee me off though, when a system has the potential (e.g. on cable, us), and it's not put to good use.

But if you want more upstream you have to get it from somewhere - on my line that would be from the downstream.

I'd prefer a robust downstream and TV to a stonking fast upstream - after all what are any of us doing that upstram bandwidth (Not latency as required for gaming) is a big hinderance?

From the homechoice website it looks like customers who got the double spped for free (i.e.2M for the price of 1M) wont be getting the upgrade? Can someone confirm this?

I think it is not for customers who got 1mbps for the price of 512k 27.50 in Oct either. Sometimes u think HC is very strange!
