With both PS4 and Xbox 1 having the ability to record gameplay what do you think of this new feature. Sony and MS seem to think its a big deal to the point that Sony have included a button on the controller for this feature.

But at the moment I don't really see this as something I would use past recording a few funny glitches I have seen in games. I don't care about recording a kill to show of to random people on the internet.

Are you excited for this new feature?

Would be better if they could save more than the last 5 minutes. But maybe they'll sort an update for it later...?

I'd say funny moments like when you plant C4 somewhere and then set it off as people run over/past them are worth recording.

Bit sad I know but it does make me laugh!

I'm more interested in the live streaming element- watching other people's games via OnLive was fun depending on what they were playing and where they were in the game.

PS4 can do at least 15 minutes. Some reports have the PS4 as being able to export much longer clips locally for importing into Final Cut etc.

No idea about the Xbox One re clip time, but I have heard it can only do 720p clips.

Yes Xbox One is 720p30.

If PS4 isn't the same, I'd imagine it'll have settings because 1080p will be quite chunky.

Now that sounds quite interesting, is there any information on this feature yet?

Xbox One has Twitch.TV integration baked into the dash, so if you switch it on people will be automatically able to watch your game streamed live via that website- don't know if PS4 has anything similar off the top of my head.

I see it more as just a way to share epic moments with other friends that game

Uploading highlights from a game of Fifa, or sharing that unbelievable goal that nobody would believe you scored

Or sharing funny glitches or WTF moments with friends

I'm sort of in the middle of the two choices, two useful to be a gimmicky and to not useful enough to be genius

Get what? Not heard of that.

If it is a capture card then these consoles will likely have HDCP (requirement for a Blu-ray device) rendering capture cards useless.

PS4 has live streaming via Ustream.

Me either. On the other hand, I do sometimes watch clips other people have recorded, so I'll probably benefit if that becomes easier.

I know it's a lot different but halo with its forge recording was good when u needed help when looking for skulls for achievements etc so this will be good for similar uses.

Some people make a living off doing videos of game playthoughs. Native recording using consoles allows people new to this idea of making money an access point to be able to do so. You only have to look at the likes of Twitch.tv to see how huge social game broadcasting is.

I can see why they've added these features, I watch YouTube.

I don't think it'll be used to much though, people who are interested in doing commentaries will find it to limiting, everyone else will maybe use it occasionally, others will try it and not bother again.

So I would say, it's nice to have it but still borderline gimmicky.

MS has one advantage over Sony in this respect. Twitch.tv is just so much better than Ustream. Twitch.tv is gaming paradise where as Ustream just seems lag paradise. I really have no idea what's the purpose of that site.

And before anyone says that MS is behind a paywall. Remember MS has subscribers already who don't see an issue of applications such as YouTube and Netflix being behind a paywall. It won't be an issue for them.

Sony missing out on Twitch.tv is a massive deal imo.

Me too but I have used Twitch on a few occasions to watch some livestreams. The good thing about Twitch is that they're partnered with YouTube and you have an option to automatically upload your streams from Twitch to Youtube.

I agree entirely that Twitch is better. I have yet though (unless someone is kind enough to post a link here) to hear that it is exclusive to Xbox One.

I used that site to stream the LIVE E3 conferences, it was the only site that could crash my decrepit old PC. Sadly not the best site but I would hope that if someone like Sony has committed to using the site for their uploads and steams it will improve over time.

I have not used Twitch at all so no idea which is better.
