Bear in mind this job has it's downsides.
Constantly being in the public eye. Working long hours. A quick turn over of work mates due to characters exit's, weather they be planned to or not! Working with actors who may be plain nasty behind the scenes Despite the pay would you really want to be the next Ken Barlow, Adam Woodyatt or Nick Pickard of the soap world? A lot of us would jump at it but in reality I bet it is just like any other job... |

I would stay for around 7 years and then leave to pursue other roles. I could cope, but I would want big storylines and I would want to make an impact.

You could cope with playing a pedophile or racist? The public aren't always the brightest sparks. Quote:

The long hour days of repeating the same scene over and over again would be tough and draining, but I'd give it a go. I'd stay as long as I could bear it

If I was popular and enjoyed it I would stay until I was axed
If not I will leave as soon as my contract expires. I'm going to acting classes soon as its my dream to be in a soap. |

Good luck with everything!
Thanks I am a big fan of Robbie Lawson he just needs his own story to get his teeth into or more involved with Cameron Murray and Cain Dingle. I like him too the actors quite decent and seems like a nice guy. |

What character and personality would you like to play from each soap? As in someone created for you to play.

I'd say a max of 5 years as I think that's enough time to bed a character in properly and win some awards - best actress Hello
- and then it would also mean I wouldn't need to pay for my leaving do. Although I would probably end up staying until I died in real life. I think that's a weak point with my employment I stay too long with companies when I should leave sooner.

Me to, how long is to long, I always said staying longer than 5 years is a bad idea, my time is coming up soon. I see it as if I spent 5 years at High School and that felt like forever then work should be the same.
Does Roy Cropper have that? |

I would stay for a long long time if I got to be Tommy Duckworth's girlfriend, using my time wisely on the street to right the wrongs of the past, making myself dictator in chief, under the guise of a humble industrious and unflappable housewife who is all the time subverting the locals to learn to love each other and live in peace and harmony, to appreciate nature and create wonderful music together.
I am the one who could make it happen. Trust me! |

5 years sounds good to me. I would make sure I have been a character that has been used, not for comedic purposes or just being in the background. But i would also make sure I have a chance of getting work after before i left, otherwise I will be returning in a year or so after failing to crack the states.

Home and Away. I would stay for three years and then go and wait tables in LA.

It would depend entirely on the character and storylines I was given. There is just no way on God's earth that I would ever accept an offer on Hollyoaks because I'd want to be taken seriously and the problem with Hollyoaks is that almost every character that arrives has a shelf-life. Corrie would also have to be kindly declined because it's not meaty enough and the cast (from what I have heard from others) are supposed to be the bitchiest out of all of them.
EastEnders would be more ideal because there's more of an atmosphere and buzz about it. Emmerdale sounds like a lovely place to work and the cast are supposed to be very welcoming. I would never return even if the door was left open because I firmly believe that no character can ever live up to their initial stint. |

Being in EastEnders, for example, doesn't mean you'll automatically have a really successful career post soap. And being Scottish I'm probably destined to be evil in any English soap anyway so I doubt I would last 5 years. I'm only disappointed that I would never work with my favourite EE characters as they're all dead and gone ahahah listen to me! like I'm starting next week ![]()

Ooh fun thread.
I'd stay for 6-8 years, but I'd like to be crammed into near enough every storyline possible. I'd like to win a lot of awards, and I'd like my exit to leave an impact. I'd also want to have a fantastic death scene, but be involved in a who-dunnit, murder plot and a fire/explosion plot before I left.Maybe linking in with my death scene. If I was going to work for a soap, it would have to be EastEnders for me. Apparently, Coronation Street's cast are bitchy (Sean and Fiz especially), Emmerdale is too low profile for me, and Hollyoaks is a bit too cheesy and not really like the 'flagship soaps'. I mean, it would be embarrassing to audition for a film (a big time film as well) and mention that you were on Hollyoaks. Although it hasn't seemed to bother the girl who played Hannah. |

I could cope with the workload as I work a lot of hours anyway, I could cope with inconsistent colleagues as its life people move on, I would probably struggle with fame and nasty actors that would be the thing I would dread the most

I know what you mean and I would want my character killed off. I'd want to do the whole 'life events' thing on a soap. Get married, Have a child and die in some horrific way.

I would take it, but stay for no longer than a year. I would want a villain story, but pushed to the very extremes of taste. Think of it like this, the last days of Rome, but in the whore kingdom of Babylon. Mixed in with something like the Dark Elves from 40k, there sexual lust for misery. Yeah, I would want me as that, most likely in Eastenders. Maybe Corri, but not Emmerdale. Nothing against it, but just wouldnt want to work there.
Notably a lot of my day dreaming interactions in soaps often centre on space marines for some reason. Strange two fictions to put together as well haha. Having said that, you pointing out OP about the fame bit, i think that could keep me away from it all if given a real role or something. I would be like a writer or something if anything, the money is nice but please no fame at all thanks. |
