What issue?! I don't remember any CPU issue affecting me! There's not been a time I've not been able to watch as normal other than the refreshing. When was it because I honestly have no idea what problem you're referring to!
the player version 1.9.2.6.g was bugged, it took an entire week before they switched to the .h release which wasn't affected. I remember it very well because I had to resort to an not-so-legal service in order to watch the games. |

I remember the issue but i did not realise it affected the cpu anyway the stream would start then quickly slow to a crawl and then lock up your system the only way to stop was to force close flash player Quote:

What? the channel 12 issue affected everyone and so did the high cpu usage issue..
Now, go check this post http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...postcount=2003 I'll quote it here as well in case you don't want to click the link I'll just forget the various comments freely available if you trawl expat forums, specific MENA forums and I'll pretend the Middle East's industry awards just awarded Al Jazeera thin air instead of awards for their service? I mentioned refreshing myself in my previous post. Hell, I have to do that all the time when I'm watching Virgin TV Anywhere off my Dad's subscription (he has a box, I use his login for online streaming) and we're both in the UK! I'd honestly say I have less technical trouble with beIN streaming than I do with Virgin's service. |

On a positive note 12HD has been perfect for over 30 minutes now and the quality has not dropped at all which makes the previous issue even stranger

Any search of 1.9.2.6.h or 1.9.2.6.g (or version 'f') points back here, and here only. As far as I was aware, the website just offers a Flash element into their site and Adobe handle the rest by way of user downloads and updates. As noted at the time, the streams were perfectly fine before logging in to the service using DNS servers - the free channels available to everybody around the world at the time were loading and playing without a problem. After the user logged in using a DNS service, matters changed and he had problems. He then goes on to say this in a further post: Quote:
They probably know from your account the last logged in IP and then its not rocket science to work out you are on a dns service etc.. Still convinced its a round-robin latency check that is being employed. Confirmed by collegue today in algeria on business that all runs perfect.
Which, in plain English, means something is happening to the data after it's left one point and before it reaches another... and we've been well aware of this since Overplay confirmed this to me and I posted their reply! So if you are going to quote old posts, at least piece the whole story together instead of just one post to suit your version of what's going on. |

Now, why didnt they keep it like that if it's was actually a new method to stop users from outside the mena? really c'mon lol.. Anyway this is a pointless discussion so I'll just leave it. No point arguing about this, I rest my case. |

No there're other forums where ppl talked about that problem, for example (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1803221). It was a widespread issue.

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced. Sorry, I didn't go to page 2 on Google but after getting past the spam, there is one more forum on the 2nd page and it's the one you have linked. So that's 2 mentions on the whole world wide web. I've just scrolled through that entire post for two comments from people who just happened to notice and put 2+2 together and got 5?Due to actions by Al Jazeera, the service is no longer supported and unfortunately that's likely to remain the case for the foreseeable future. Thank you for co-operating with us. So they acknowledged that AJ had implemented measures to stop them and thought they'd not get back in again. Somehow they managed it. And yet streams were still fluctuating and problems still arose for some people and not others. Obviously this had something to do with the range of IP's being used by the third parties having extra attention paid to them by AJ. A fair few people on your shared link complain of poor quality streaming from their domestic provider Foxtel which is why they moved to Al Jazeera, by way of VPN, instead and they found it better quality(!), until the above was posted by Overplay and they could no longer access the streams because all the problems were reported after this. And again, any mention of the above player versions specify that the problems with Flash were different before and after signing in by way of DNS provider - fine before, poor after. This does not mean it had anything to do with AJ - it was the third party having a direct effect not the source material. Like I said previously, a Flash player is just a Flash player - it's down to Adobe to introduce updates to it and it's down to the user to download those updates. That's it. The reason you won't find any results when searching for those player versions (other than these 2 forums!) is because it's a mute point - it's a complete non-issue. Which takes us back around... again... to what other knowledgable posters have said previously and what DNS service Overplay has stated... it's something that happens in the middle. I don't even know why I'm still replying to you when I've not got an issue with the service! I won't pick holes in any more of your posts. From now on, I'll leave you to it because I'm bidding farewell to this thread, I've had more than enough!! |

You're actually wrong, promo-only. The free streams (the ones before login) used an earlier version of the flash app (version f iirc), and only once logged in was it the bugged version g. They updated both to version h and it instantly fixed everything.
The problem 'in the middle' that people were seeing last week was down to Akamai handing out content servers in Spain to DNS queries coming from LINX. Just to add - this isn't a personal confrontation to anyone... just clearing it up! |

Do you mind explaining this in a bit more detail for those (like me) who don't understand networking/DNS stuff that well please? (Not being sarcastic - genuinely interested!!)

LINX is the London Internet Exchange - the main internet 'backbone' in the UK. The SmartDNS providers will house their DNS servers on here in one shape or form, whereas your ISP will host their own DNS servers on their own network.
Akamai are the content distribution provider. Think of it this way... you're moving house NOW and need to get all your belongings (the video data) to the new place. You grab your yellow pages and call the first mover that you find. If you're using your 'local' yellow pages, then that mover is *likely* to be very close to you... the mover can tell the yellow pages* that they serve your area and so its super easy to link you two up... therefore it's likely they can get to your house quicker. (*Yellow pages == DNS server here, mover == content distribution provider) With SmartDNS its not really viable to have the yellow pages for every single city that a customer comes in from... instead they'll hold a yellow pages for the main city, the 'internet backbone'. Generally that's totally fine, you'll just get a mover thats based in Birmingham when you might be actually be in Manchester. Nevermind, just a small delay and a pretty big motorway linking them (apologies to people that have ACTUALLY used the M6!). Sometimes, however, these international movers will screw up and advertise a van that's located in Spain to customers in the UK... you're then taking a bunch of narrower/longer roads and getting boats. You cant shift your stuff as fast, even though all you *did* ask for a local mover! SmartDNS makes akamai's job harder. They can't tell that you're really using O2 and point you to their content servers on O2's network. They can't tell that you're using BT and point you at the BT servers... all they can see is the location of the SmartDNS server and make a best effort based on that. Sometimes the best-efforts SUCK though! This is why it's sometimes better to use the SmartDNS provider's DNS servers one by one... the DNS servers will often be in seperate locations, meaning you'd get a different content server from each one. One of these content servers may be better for you than the others (they may be connected by a faster / less busy motorway). Apologies if the abstraction is a bit infantile. BGP routing isn't an easy concept to visualise! |

Well beinsports has been perfect for me today even on 12HD so either the dns providers have finally got there act together or beinsports where to blame and they have fixed the issues

Star Sports
Hi
I've recently come back from India and whilst I was there I purchased the Star Sports app for my iPad. Whilst I was there it worked really well. I managed to watch all the Premier League games that I wanted. I never had any issues with picture or sound. It would take about 15 seconds for a really clear picture to appear but I can live with that. The app cost a fiver and in India a very good bargain. However since coming back I've struggled to get a decent picture. I've signed up with overplay VPN but I'm not getting anywhere a reasonable picture. Is anyone using star sports? If you are what VPN service are you using? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Akash |

I noticed the same exact thing using said dns service ive just tried it again now and its actually not to bad the quality is not the same as beinsports but its good as a backup. Quote:
I use Star Sports as a backup to BeIn. Even though my DNS service does not officially support it I am still able to use it without being geo-blocked, but it never seems to stream at the highest quality.
