It may be one thing for people outside of their market to buy from Taiwan to save money, people who normally wouldn't be buying officially anyway, but now that everyone is starting to talk about it online, they stand a really serious chance of New Zealand customers buying from Taiwan.

This could cause them serious financial problems, and a company is going to act very differently from a] when people add to their sales by buying overseas, to b] when their local market dwindles and they start making losses.

What do you think they will most likely do?

You know how it goes... everything works fine until people start taking the piss. It is one thing to buy a PLP sub from another country like the UK which helps support the company, to buying from a cheaper source which will make them lose money.”

Good points made. But I believe starsports India and the company that owns premierleaguepass did not pay as much as NBC, Beinsport and Sky sports will have paid to secure premier league rights. I believe most of their subscribers are foreign and those who are working temporarily in these countries or on holiday. They will obviously own credit cards for their countries of origin so they might not really feel customers placing sub orders reside in the UK. Does anyone know if the premier league is actually shown on any New Zealand TV or Cable Channels.? Remember these are emerging Markets and its probably just a stream only deal not a satellite or terrestrial tv deal.

Do you mean with regards to Flash? I use Safari and haven't noticed any obvious performance issues with any of these services.

I’ve been using Safari on my Mac to Airplay PLP via Wi-Fi and then with a HDMI and Ethernet connection. Both times I see slight judder in the picture.

The only time this hasn’t happened is when I’ve used the PLP app on my iPad and Airplay it that way.

Sky New Zealand used to provide the EPL but dropped it due to a lack of audience. "Soccer" is just not big in that country and the time difference means matches are often played live at daft o'clock.

The audience there is mostly expats.

PLP really is a small company. I want them to survive and continue to offer the matches to their subscribers. Keep in mind, it is not Brits subscribing to Taiwan that could cause them losses, but if NZ based customers start doing this as well, and nearly ALL UK expats in NZ have VPNs or Smart DNS's so they can access the BBC, 4oD and ITV. So if they all found out about this loophole, how is PLP going to react to protect their investment?

Just saying... I don't want to spoil the mood or anything, but you know, a lot of people in the UK will buy a full-price season sub from PLP and we wouldn't want then PLP to suddenly go all blocky on VPNs and DNSs spoiling it for everyone to avoid loosing out on the people who signed up to Taiwan

I quite agree with your comment. Then we will all need to keep this quiet now, won't we ? Though expats in New Zealand wouldn't use a VPN or dns to access premier league pass and are quite comfortable with the subscription prices. The worst that could happen I guess is that new subscribers will have to provide billing addresses in Taiwan, similar to how apple operates with it's app store. Few people will end up subscribing to plp anyway from the UK. You can't even access the plp website without a VPN or DNS talk less of even subscribing. Only techies will go through this subscription procedure. But looking at the business model, they are better off with 2000 subscribers paying Taiwan prices than 300 paying New Zealand prices. Truth is, a lot of users here will have just paid for a starsports sub instead and probably wouldn't have even subscribed at all to plp if not for the reduced Taiwan Sub prices.

It's awful and makes for very uncomfortable viewing. If it was a video game the frame rate would be unplayable. It probably averages around 20fps. The Norwich/Arsenal game is the same.

Nearly all the other games are good at 25fps and the news that they intend to stream at 30fps this season is very welcome.

Just noticed that someone has posted about the PLP Taiwan prices and how to get them on Geekzone New Zealand lets see how long the option lasts for now

Oh How brilliant. Well they can't increase the subscription prices in Taiwan. They will have to implement a new billing method that will insist on Taiwanese billing addresses to circumvent this loophole. It's not an illegal loophole anyway. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it's too much work for non geeks and techies to take advantage of this pricing. New Zealanders are not using proxy services to access plp. There are much more technophobes who will happily pay the normal price.

Where is this then? Only stuff I see is someone mentioning the prices and then how he used hola to find them out.....

But to be honest, the way this is going I expect that PLP will get heavy with the likes of unblock and unotelly and block the DNS or they'll just cancel the suspicious accounts with UK cards.

What else do you need the price is on the the site and how to get it i would imagine PLP read that forum as its based in New Zealand and as the season gets closer more and more people will read about it there too

it will have to be within their legal rights to cancel accounts. They have been paid for legally. its not by some sort of hacking process.

I would imagine paying to watch something that is not licensed for the UK would give them the right to cancel accounts

How do they prove you're not in Taiwan?
jcm193

If you have used a UK card and billing address

They can't prove it really. If I travelled to Taiwan for a few months to work, I will still have my UK Barclays account and I might as well open an account in Taiwan. I could decide to use any accounts I wish to make payments. For instance Australians subscribe to Netflix and pay legally. Netflix isn't even in Australia. I don't believe Netflix is blocking their accounts. Too many legal loopholes really. I might even be paying for a friend in Taiwan who can't afford to pay the subscription. As long as people are paying legally.

EXACTLY! PLP won't change their subs, it will remain as is. They MAY get some pressure from the prem league but I doubt it, it's too small to bother.
