Thanks. I would be interested in getting PLP, but they only offer Prem football (It's in the name). Need to make a decision ASAP.

Star sports is a no-brainer.
If you want the CL, BeIn is the only service that has it, so again, it's a no-brainer (unless you have alternative means of getting it or are happy to make do with ITV's free coverage...

Personally, apart from Star sports, I'd wait a week or two and see people's reports/feedback on the two services, then make a decision. Also, a new player or two may emerge. Last year, Star Sports didn't begin their streaming service until 3 weeks into the season.

That is the only issue. I have BT Sports, so my football fix would be cover with Starsports aswell, but I would be missing out on the CL. Still in two minds.

I won't be next year though.

Actually, hd11 is now a higher bitrate than yesterday but still doesn't look as sharp as 13/14. IPad Air>apple tv

The trick to avoid requiring a credit card is to use a computer. The method I posted earlier still works a treat.

Not sure if this has already been covered for Star Sports but I've just managed to subscribe directly from the app and linking to my iTunes (India) account. Just did the thumb print scan and went straight through. My cost for the simplicity was an extra 99p for some reason. £4.99 for the year. What a scam. Almost 20% higher than it should be lol

How have some of you guys been subscribing to Star Sports, it only gives you options to Asian banks and Debit cards?

Yes, for some reason, some broadcasters forget that people may want to airplay content to the big screen, so they look at the smaller mobile phone screen and decide all that is needed is a low quality stream (it does save them money in bandwidth).

Since tablet apps on iOS are almost always different to iPhone ones, the iPad is treated differently and usually sports the full quality stream (the screen is bigger afterall).

PLP do this, so the iPhone maxes at 1600kbps with the iPad maxing at 4500kbps. All Android devices, tablet or phones are the same as the iPhone at 1600kbps, since tablets are ignored really on Android.

Not all broadcasters do this. I love to bring Zattoo up (because they are amazing) and all their live streams are the same for iPad as for iPhone or Android.

I subscribed through iTunes but no videos are playing via overplay. I thought this didn't work with dns only a vpn?

Also, upgraded my iOS BeIN app..and now it won't play anything!? Crashes to wallpaper when selecting TV guide. ????

If you have an iPad or iPhone, try doing it directly from the app. It takes the payment just like you would for any other app. Password / fingerprint read.

Just tested my star sports app via VPN and played a highlights football stream and it's fine at my end. Haven't renewed with bein yet so can't try that. If you're using an apple device try a hard restart and try again. Having said that, if you have 2 apps not working it sounds like you're doing something wrong at your end with the DNS or VPN. Hope too get it sorted

Update. Football package now showing for me in the Star App.

Went through as a simple in app purchase for $6.99.

Nice fall back if all else fails for $7!

My card isn't in the provided list, so I am not sure what to do.

Try using your Debit Card in the Credit card section. That's what I did with my Mastercard Debit, and it went through first time!

The crazy thing is, PLP made such a big deal about their airplay functionality last year, and they've had a year to optimise/tweak it so it outputs at the maximum bitrate, yet they've consciously chosen not to implement it on iPhones!

Have you tried airplay mirroring from a mac, via ethernet?
What did you mean by "web?"

Edit: I'm having a conversation with PLP on Twitter... They're saying that they can't "push 4500kbps through an iPhone..."

Jesus christ.
I logged to the StarSports Android App and bought a season pass for about 7$.
I got the transaction mail from Google play straight away and guess what? It said that i've bought a "All Season Football App Pass (starsports.com App) ". After a quick check, it appears to be right. If you buy the season package from the Android app, you get the App-pass and if you buy it using the website you get the Universal-pass.

Quickly, logged into my google wallet account and contacted the customer support, filled out a form requesting them to call me to resolve the issue, and got a call from the google customer support in Mountain View, California. The nice lady on the phone canceled my transaction right away (since it was pending, it takes a payment about an hour to go through google wallet).
Given the fact im in Israel currently, to have Google support give me a call from California. wow. what a service!

Android people,
avoid using the app for purchases. use the website instead!

Last season if you subscribed from the app you didn't get access to the website for some reason. Worth bearing in mind

Sorry if I wasn't clear, the iPhone will happily airplay to a TV, but only at its maximum quality stream which is 1600kbps. Why PLP say they can't send the full quality through to the iPhone is beyond me, since other developers have no such problems.

By web I just meant a normal browser on a PC or Mac, whether that is Firefox, IE, Safari etc.

I haven't tried mirroring from my Mac as it is too old.
