PLP looks better than NBC Sports imo but even then I still prefer Sky Sports SD over PLP.

A big improvement might be possible if the Apple TV 4 supports the HEVC/H.265 video standard. The frame rate could they be bumped up from 30fps to 50fps without needing to increase on the bitrate that's currently used for H.264 streams.

In resolution terms obviously an SD channel will always be worse than a HD stream. But when you look at the bitrate and compression used - it has a massive effect on the picture.

Most streams still lack behind broadcast in this matter. Netflix is the only thing I've seen that comes close but that's only prerendered stuff. Live is even harder.

Have you seen nbc on Apple tv? It's better than sky sports sd in every way. If it wasn't, I'd have watched today's games on sky.

Yes I have seen it on Apple TV. My point is a HD stream will always have a better resolution than an SD channel, however comparing a HD channel to a HD stream is different.

Meh Sky Sd > HD streams.

HD streams may look better when the camera is not moving but once it moves and pans it's just not as smooth. As I said before if the streams went to 50fps that would change everything.

I agree on all streams with the exception of premier league pass on iOS and NBC on Apple TV. They are as smooth as broadcast TV.

Plp via AirPlay is outstanding, not tried NBC yet.
Other than quick trial, worked DNS only, do most of you use VPN
Cheers

Interesting email came in from Bein Sports today about their service being upgraded on 18 May to better streaming quality, full HD with better reliability and security. When the migration is complete, we've to log on and update our account details to ensure we remain connected.

Hmmmmm......
I received the same email. My iPhone app has now updated to version 3. And will not open, with either smart DNS or a vpn in place.

iPad app is still not updated and running as well as it ever did. With a few stop starts and random jumping back in the broadcast.

Anyone know anything about the new iPhone version and compatibility.

Cheers.

According to the appstore the beinsports app is designed for both the ipad and iphone

https://itunes.apple.com/sa/app/bein...784542009?mt=8

If your jailroken you maybe able to go back to an older version of the app

Not jail broken unfortunately. It was however set to update automatically. Until there is a work around I'll keep the previous version on the iPad as long as possible.

May stick to nbc sports as it is more reliable.

I gave up on bein long ago. Constantly getting locked out, jumping streams, poor quality, judder, crap apps. Nbc for epl, fox for fa cup and champ league
