Hi - that seems strange about the dns as nbc clears on Roku, pc etc..........but not in KODI - why would that make a difference ?

Dave (tried to edit post above but can't for some reason)

If I did this though wouldn't it be like I was in the USA with ALL of my connected devices? For example I don't want sky or my xbox thinking im in the usa and not being able use those devices???

Its does not work like that you have to configure your smart dns to work with sky go you only do this if your outside of the UK, if you dont set it specificity sky go will use your UK ip address.

The only device I want to think im outside the uk would be my apple tv! So how would I do that for just one device? If I set my router up for smartdns would it not set up every device that is connected to my router?

I'm not sure of the exact reason why but there's enough anecdotal evidence to suggest at best using DNS services is hit and miss but far more often miss than hit on the Kodi addon,
my guess would be that its failing because of the way the addon handles the login process.
My own findings show me that only a VPN works 100% of the time and then only with certain servers, my VPN supplier offers many many US servers but only some of them work flawlessly all of the time.

You can try contacting unotelly and asking them to look at the kodi addon and getting their service to work with it but I doubt they'd invest too much time on something so niche when all other methods work

Smart dns does certainly seem to fail on Appletv with NBCsports i did some tsting during yesterdays matches 5 different smart dns services all failed on NBCsports on apple tv 3 different vpn services were all succesful.
All smart dns services tested were all succesful on firetv and pc, all vpn services teasted were also succesful.
So my findings would indicate that Apple have somehow blocked smart dns for NBCsports on the Appletv, all other services hulu+, hbogo, espn all worked fine on Appletv with smart dns.
I will do more testing over next weekend but i think it's safe to say yesterdays testing was pretty conclusive, i personally have a vpn/smart dns combo service.
I haven't tested kodi yet i will do this next weekend.

Isn't it the case that the Kodi addon uses iPad (/AppleTV?) streams? If so I wonder if these failings by DNS are therefore related. From what I have read I've not seen anyone successfully use a DNS service with Kodi. I had assumed that it only works via VPN.

The Prem League Pass app worked within Kodi yesterday fine and that shows as an apple app from the onscreen text.

It all seems a bit random, I have to log out of apple tv every now and again and log back in and all is fine again. Man u game worked without a hitch.

I'll test the Newcastle game later and see what happens

Tempted by a vpn rather than dns but not sure what impact it has on broadband speed etc?

With vpn I've have to change the router settings and then can I individually allocate a country by ip address of device?

I know people can be guarded of their vpn but if you we're able to pm details of your provider that'd be appreciated

My speeds on the US servers I use range from 15 meg to 50 meg on my 152 meg connection, 15 meg is more than adequate to run NBC without buffering.

I only use pc's for my streaming needs so its a simple task to turn on the VPN on the machine I'm using without affecting any other devices and then turn it off again after I've finished using it.

Yeah I've got Sky Sports HD and BT Sports HD but I usually watch the build up at least on NBC only switching over to the home feed when the game starts, quite often I find myself sticking with NBC even when the game is on if its not a match my team are playing in, especially if its a BT game who's coverage and analysis I find appalling.

Tell me about it i was watching Man U play the other day on sky sports Gary Neville was the commentator probably the most biased commentary ive ever heard sky should be ashamed allowing an ex man u to commentate on one of there games

Might have to upgrade to Windows 10. The web stream is pretty bad with the stutter and non smoothness that you normally get with web streams. Is it better with the windows app? Works fine with dns?

Its near enough perfect with the app i had a little bit of an issue for a few seconds but its ok now there is no stutter at all,im watching it on old i5 pc connected to my tv via hdmi ,dns wise i guess it depends who you are using but ive not seen any issues so far it also works on windows 8 btw.

Nothing works on Apple TV with smartsDNS with NBC sports now. Only option is AirPlay from iPad with a decent VPN

I can get it working by AirPlay to appletv but that's it. Damn thing! I've emailed smartDNS to see if they can somehow sort it!
