It works when air playing from my phone or iPad with a VPN yes. But I don't want to AirPlay it, instead I just want to use the NBC sports app which is on appletv and play direct from there. It was working previously with just a smartDNS (setup directly on Apple TV) but now it's not!

In case it's helpful for others I came across this guide for setting up a second router (assuming you have one, or are prepared to buy one that supports VPNs) to use with a VPN service. I will be using it for my Fire Stick.

Anyone tried Bein this season? Now that the Champions League is starting, I think I'll switch over from PLP.

Also, how do you cancel PLP? I thought it was a monthly pay as you go arrangement, but I can't find any option to cancel it!

While I've been impressed with the picture quality of PLP, there's no build-up, no atmosphere - it feels very sterile. If all you want is coverage of the 90 minutes, it's perfect, but for me I'd happily sacrifice a bit of picture quality for a full football package. Also I thought I'd seen the back of Andy Townsend

Beinsports silverlight player is awful as is every silverlight stream ie sky go etc most of there coverage is in Arabic the quality is lower than plp on ios if you have that. Personally if you have a family member who has bt and btsports i would use there apps or website ( they no longer use silverlight ) for the champions league the quality is very good but you need to get in early on a CL night

I have Bein Sports for watching the Champions League and as a back up for PLP, it's handy for other sports as well such as Boxing, Tennis and Rugby.

They do provide the full build up with Keys and Gray along with former players as pundits, similar type of build up to Sky.

Bein provide all the games but only 2 channels, ch11 and ch12 are guaranteed to be with English commentary, tonight it's PSV v Man U on ch11 and then rather bizarrely it's Roma v Barca on ch12. The Man City game is on ch1, which on the web player is only with Arabic commentary. Sometimes the player does have an audio option to switch the commentary language but there is no telling if and when it'll appear, that aspect of the player is very hit and miss.

Picture wise on my PC I find the picture to be quite good, it's between SD and HD for me, and for me at least it plays smoothly without any judder, it's not as good as PLP picture wise but it's fine for my needs.

On my Android box using the Bein Sports app it's nowhere near as good as the pic on my PC, it's a bit of a dead loss on that to be honest which is disappointing.

Overall the foreign language commentary doesn't particularly bother me, for the sport I can view I find Bein Sports to be very good value for money, however that's only my personal opinion and others will have a different view.

I would love to know your setup if you can stream a silverlight stream without any judder in my experience its the worst streaming platform ever produced especially when it comes to football, thankfully bt dropped it as they seem to actually care about the quality of the streams they provide instead of just securing them.

I find Sky Go (Silverlight) to be brilliant quality, smooth as butter. I use Windows 10 on my Mac Mini. I find it's best to restart the computer immediately before launching IE and logging in.

Cool! Might be worth me jailbreaking the old ipad then! Is it just a case of downloading a app from cydia after that then to allow airplay? Straightforward enough?

Unless the service you subscribe to has local commentary, the you are likely to get the stock commentary that the PL provide - so will get Mr Townsend on the big game regardless of it you use PLP or BeIn.

There are some exceptions - NBC Sport have their own commentary team for the big game.

Before, half time and fulltime is different. Most have there own studio feed but some providers / games will show the PL footage of continuous replays.

Yes, but what tweak is it you install? Cydia is just the name of the jailbreak App Store, unless I'm very much mistaken.

Hi,

Similar problems here over NBC live sports extra, I had no issues a couple of weeks back watching a sat afternoon live premier league game. This was using airplay via iPad and overplay dns which works flawlessly most of the time.
Now having updated the nbc app today and done a IOS 9 update on the iPad , now the damn thing won't open the premier league video or anything to do with PL.

I presume the new app is to blame after reviewing some comments in the US.
Or am I missing something?
I have emailed overplay for their comments and yes it will work with Overplay VPN, but quality is crap, not like just using DNS only
Thanks

I signed up to bein for Tuesday night. The quality was poor (maybe 480p) and would be buffering for about 10 seconds every 30 seconds. I ended up switching to a free stream which was far better.

I used bein all of last season and thought it was actually pretty good. Occasionally there would be a game I wanted to see which only had Arabic commentary (mainly 3pm kickoffs), but 90% of the time it was English. It was also good for getting coverage of other sports. I didn't use it after the switch to silverlight, but it looks like it's gone downhill. I'll try again before making final judgment though.

As a side note, SmartDNS doesn't seem to work for me if I go round a friend's - I've tried unotelly and Overplay. Does anyone know why this might be? Is it to do with ISP? Or maybe the router? I have Virgin and all works OK, but have failed with Sky and Plusnet connections...

If you already have an active USA itunes account that did not require a credit card there is not reason why it would now ask for a credit card unless your trying to buy apps, ive got a USA account and i have no issues downloading free apps.

Did you update your ip address for your dns? You can do this on your smart dns providers website or some such as unblock-us let you do it via their app.

To be fair ive also seen issues with beinsports via smart dns i would contact your supplier to see what if anything can be done to improve the experience for you
