What is the most effective way of watching NBC Sports Live Extra in the UK? A friend of mine in the US (who isn't a sports fan) is on Comcast / Xfinity and shared his login details with me to have a play around with the system. Initial excitement gave way to general frustration yesterday as I tried to get the best out of it.

On the main TV I have an Amazon Fire TV 4k box which has Kodi installed on. I have a Smart DNS set up on the device but the NBC Sports add-on doesn't open streams. I see from posts above this may be because of the Comcast / Xfinity login but I also suspect it may be because I can't install router level VPN access.

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 running the latest version of Windows 10. I was able to use the NBC Sports Live Extra website from behind a US VPN but it was a real dog to use - really slow to load and resource heavy. I don't think this would provide any kind of user experience.

I wasn't able to install the Windows 10 app which I've read about - in the store it just says "unavailable" when located. Some reading suggested that it has been withdrawn by NBC?

A bit stuck really... other devices I have available to use are a Raspberry Pi 2 (which I'm currently using a headless music player but could re-purpose if needed) an Xbox One and a Samsung Smart TV.

All advice appreciated!”

I use VPN manager (you enter your VPN details in the add-on) on Kodi/openelec and it worked flawlessly this weekend.

It should work with the raspberry pi (it did last season with xfinity) so that might be worth a shot although I am using direct tv this year.

Anyone know where I can get the latest NBC Sports APK for the Amazon Fire TV please? Tried the standard Android version but it just crashes on launch (after all the logos) need the proper Amazon Fire version but can't download from the store as I'm not in the USA.

You can change your region on your Amazon account https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/cus...deId=201459740

better guide here http://www.eyeondemand.com/2014/10/2...mazon-fire-tv/

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing a VPN to hide my online activities from Virgin Media, also to access geolocation blocked sites, what's the best available preferable not to expensive

A word of warning: when I did this last season it had the side-effect of messing up my Amazon Prime Family (sharing a Prime account among family members), which was a real hassle to rectify with Amazon.

The setup now works perfectly though. I'm scared to try to update the app, however, in case I have to go through all of that again!

I can recommend Private Internet Access.

Someone has already provided instructions for installing this app, but to explain: you can't just sideload an APK as the app has to be associated with an Amazon account, and the Fire TV will see it is not associated with yours.

I'm in the same boat as you... I have US Xfinity login from a friend but can't figure out best way to use it.
At the moment I'm leaning towards a mini-pc with HDMI out running the website.
I bought a 4k Fire TV at the weekend but had no luck. It seems there are a lot of steps with the Apps and a lot of points at which something can go wrong.
The website always works, but running on my £200 Chromebook isn't the best quality.

Its frustrating as we seem so close to having a great Premier League viewing experience cracked.

PM me if you have any luck Sam.

The best option I have found (I also have an Xfinity login) is using the official NBC Sports app on a Fire TV, using a smart DNS service. Someone has provided above a good guide to installing this app. The Android app (don't know about iOS) recently introduced a Chromecast option that also works very well.

I saw it mentioned here recently that Xfinity logins do not work for the NBC Sports add-on in Kodi. I haven't tried this recently but last season this did work, but if you weren't using a US VPN it would say your login details were incorrect.

Thank you all for the help on the NBC question. There are a few things I'm going to test out over the next week or so - this is all very much a question of technical interest, I'm sure I would cope without it!

I also balked at switching Amazon Region for my Prime box because it would break my Prime Family setup - in short, my wife would kill me. So not going there.

I think the ideal setup is actually this:

Main Router ----> Mini-Router running US VPN ---> 2nd Fire Box / Stick ---> NBC App installed from new Amazon account based at US address

The mini router is a cheap approach to ensuring you have a fixed VPN connection at all times without tying every device in the house to a non-UK IP address. Only streaming devices could be linked to the mini router and the VPN could be changed depending on which country's content was being requested.

Does need some investment though - the cost of the router + additional fire stick is over £50.

Would be interested in seeing a step-by-step when you get it up and running please.

I'm afraid the Comcast/Xfinity login is your problem as far as using Kodi is concerned, as Kodi addons are made by people in their spare time for free its anyone's guess as to whether the developer of this addon has the time or inclination to fix the Comcast issue.

To get the Win 10 app change your region in settings to USA, although at the moment Premier League games are not showing up on this app (hopefully this is just an aberration whilst the Olympics are on).

Funnily enough I ended up connecting my Surface Pro 4 to my TV as an emergency measure last night to get NBC up and running quickly, I was trying to use Now TV to watch the game but suffered from constant quality drops, repeated buffering and the service stopping completely twice,
go figure I fire up my VPN on my SP4, connect to NBC and get a perfect service in 1080P, Sky need to do some serious investing in their Now TV servers if they want custom for their sports service!

Hi what smartdns service are you using on the fire tv to access the content on nbc sports app. I have found none that work properly with the Apple TV and don't want to be signing up to another service to find it doesn't work with the fire TV. Thanks

By way of an update on this...

The mini-router arrived and was ridiculously easy to set up. Just plugged it in to my main router and instantly had a second wifi network in operation at home (wired also available) for which to connect devices to.

The firmware of the router is very user friendly and has a whole section for OpenVPN. I spent hours and hours trying to get this to work. The OpenVPN files provided by my current supplier didn't work, and neither did those of two other popular and well known providers. Others on the manufacturer's forum did get those services to work so not sure what I was doing wrong but it did drive me quite mad

This morning I started a 3 day trial with Vypr (GoldenFrog) and found their configuration files worked instantly. I can now have wifi-network #2 running 24/7 from a country of my choice - it seems very stable. 7 hours of uptime so far and no hint of any problems. By holding this network as a permanent US network I've been able to repoint other devices in the home to it (such as my tablet and Xbox One) so that they now believe they are US based. I was able to install the NBC Sports App on both XboxOne and Windows 10 tablet + 'activate' them on the NBC website without any problems at all - will test tomorrow night for the Man Utd game to see how this works in reality.

There may be further legs in this approach for other national services - I'm keen to try out DAZN in Germany to see what that is like too.

All sounds good so far.... my biggest concern now is on VPN speeds though. I'm a home fibre user and tend to get around 35-40Mbps whenever I do a speedtest through the new network with the VPN switched off (the same as the main router). When I connect to the US VPN the speed drops off dramatically to around 3.5-4.5Mbps. I don't know if this is the provider although interestingly I did a 'standard' connection via a VPN Desktop client on my old provider and saw a similar degradation in speed - funny, I'd never noticed it previously.

So.... first real world test of NBC in that environment tomorrow night. Will update on here with how well it worked and which devices it worked on. Given the speed limitations I'm not expecting 1080p but we'll see how things go!

The speed drop could be down to the router its self for example i run an Asus ac56 u in repeater mode and a Asus ac rt3200 both far more powerful than the new mini router you have now i can only max out at 15-20 mbps on a 300 meg connection via open vpn as its very cpu intensive.

If this https://worldsoccertalk.com/2016/08/...s-10-xbox-one/ and this https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/com...remier_league/ are to be believed then it might be a long wait for Premier League games to show up on the NBC Windows app.

I think I might have to break the habit of a lifetime and buy an Apple product and set up my spare router as a VPN router

It also works very well on a firetv as a bonus your be able to run your vpn directly off that and get better speeds.

https://www.amazon.com/mn/dcw/myx.ht...ttings/payment

ARGH! It looks like this is exactly what is happening. Thanks for the pointer - this would have puzzled me for a while

With the news about Xbox One and W10 being switched off too that really has put the knackers on the whole thing.

All thoroughly enjoyable experimentation but on a feasibility level starting to look untenable.

You could try running a vpn behind wireless hotspot you can do this by using a wifi connected laptop or pc as a virtual wireless hotspot so connecting the devices your want to un-geoblock

There free and paid options to do this if it works you may well get higher throughput/download speed
