It is likely to be complicated licensing agreements, and it may have nothing to do with the EPL - then again, it might.
Some content providers charge extra for AirPlay support. Some licenses state that the iOS stream can not be "re-broadcasted" which some lawyers may have told the broadcaster this includes AirPlay. Some licenses state that the stream can only be displayed directly on the mobile device itself. etc etc...
Because AJS offer lots of sports from many different suppliers, it may be that they don't want to spend time, money and effort to allow AirPlay support only on specific sports - so they blanket ban it.
It gets really, really complicated, and let's be honest, AJS did say right from the beginning that AirPlay wasn't supported, but it just happened to work on their iOS app. Perhaps that was an error?
PLP only offer one sport, the EPL and they stated right from the beginning that AirPlay was supported, and it is. Either they were happy to pay for additional AirPlay rights, or it wasn't an issue with the EPL, or their lawyers
read the legal jargon differently, or....
