So at least we know it's the Premier League forcing their hand then. In which case, I can't see Hola lasting too much longer either. The PL have clearly given AJ an ultimatum of sort the problem out immediately... or have the rights revoked and awarded to a competitor instead.
And the vpn people find a way around it, and on and on we go!

It could be a good move at the moment. I think it was getting a bit too main stream - so just bursting the bubble for the moment does cool interest down a bit.

It's clearly going to be a game between the DNS providers and content providers - I'm sure the DNS will win out as they seem to have managed so far quite well.

I'd hazard a guess that AJ are taking it very seriously and will be keeping right on top of it in order to protect their most valuable property in terms of live rights. It would also appear that the PL mean business during this rights cycle too.

Using a VPN to watch live matches isn't an ideal scenario especially once everybody decides to use the same method.

Also, surely the uk Al Jazeera user base is a tiny minority? It's not like there's millions of users surely?

Domestic customers aren't the issue. The PL don't want 3pm matches going to pubs & clubs and sadly every man and his dog has got AJ now. Domestic use has always had a blind eye turned to it but not this time because it's stemming from the same source.

Thank you for contacting OverPlay.net

At present aljazeerasport isn't supported.

We're investigating into it from our end.

However, we do not have an ETA on it.

Aah good point. I suppose it's a cheap option for pubs. Ain't the internet ace! I feel all proud when I stream the games from Al Jazeera!

Working again for me.

Could go either way this; Overplay could realise how much business is in allowing the likes of us access to AJS and up their game, or it could be a sign AJS have actually employed some decent technical people and we're back to bloody Sopcast.

Still blocked here on UnoTellyDNS on my iPad. I wonder if Overplay have figured out a way around it.

I think people need to lay off Overplay a little. This appears to be the first time that AJS have actively tried to block DNS access. The service is back up and running now (on Mac and iOS,) but don't be surprised if this happens again.

As far as Hola is concerned, it's worked pretty well for me today, but it's a relatively untested system and (as far as I know) relatively new... I'm pretty sure that, if they become as popular as overplay, they'll be the subject of attention from AJS and it wouldn't surprise me if they started charging too. They also don't appear to have any kind of support... Why would they?

All will become clearer in the next week or two, so let's just hope Overplay (or whichever DNS service you choose to use) manages to stay one step ahead of the content providers

So it goes down just before the EPL and comes back a bit after?

Can't be coincidence, might be a poor way of blocking until something else gets implemented.

If this is the case (and I have a feeling it is!) then it just goes to show that AJ are well aware that a lot of their custom is beyond the MENA region and yet they're being forced to do something they don't actually want to do.

Will be interesting to see if any problems arise tomorrow and Monday night or whether this is purely a Saturday measure. Not sure why they blocked the 12.45 and 5.30 matches though when they were transmitted on UK TV anyway.

I think your right. They know who is buying it bit basically dont care. Well not until the EPL got involved - but then remember the EPL needs AJ probably more than AJ needs the EPL ...think AJ could be serious future bidders.

AJS actually put in a serious bid in the UK for the Premier League highlights recently (would mean no more BBC MOTD!)

They are very much the real deal and yes the prem need them more than they need the prem

Also on the last forum I wrote about Hola, and why i chose OverPlay over it. I remember there was a while when Hola didn't work and it wasn't always fully stable. It is proving very good as a backup though for when OverPlay gets a bit grubby

This is all speculation at the moment. Why do people assume this is a problem caused by AJS. To me it looks like an issue at the Overplay end.
