If there's one thing that we do know, you can't stop the progress of technology, in the long term. It's a shame that it's not going to be smooth sailing anymore, but I think there will be a workaround, or other options will crop up. I'm surprised it took the PL this long to clamp down. Let's all relax and see what happens

I think the fact that Hola can access the subscription page but not the streams, OverPlay SmartDNS can access neither and what the fella at UnoTele or whatever its called said

It looks like it's adding up

There has been consistent works going on preparing for the HD streams (4000kbps) and they have just switched servers (video wise) to sort that out

Hopefully that means we can now get the updated HD streams if it works again too!

hence the geo-restriction avoider used by all of these just needs to be updated

i imagine OverPlay are performing maintenance on their server in Egypt, hence you cant access the subscription page, whereas Hola isn't really a paid for service and probably aren't aware so are just plodding along with their same old script (would need updating)

So fingers crossed, let's sit back, and hope that its sorted by 2:59pm Saturday

Now doesnt Hola just share out someone's IP in that area? isn't it a peer to peer thing?

I'm not sure that's the case mate... There have been occasions where channels were viewable on Hola, but not on SmartDNS. That tells me that, because Hola hasn't been widely used up until recently, it "snuck under the radar" of AJS, and hence their IPs weren't banned. As soon as people started using that service more, AJS cottoned-on (perhaps by reading this forum, or just by looking at their own traffic) and banned their IPs.

I don't know enough about the tech involved in smart DNS services but, it seems to me like AJS will continuously be searching and banning IPs of companies like Overplay, forcing Overplay to change IPs, only for AJS to find and ban those. And round and round it will go... Cat and mouse.

"Dear Daniel,

Thank you for contacting OverPlay.net

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that has caused.

Al Jazeera Sport is working fine with SmartDNS now.

They blocked our service (in fact, they blocked a bunch of other competitor's services as well), but we have it working again now.

Could you please try accessing Al Jazeera and see if that works for you.

We will do our level best to avoid a similar inconvenience in future.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Best regards,

Keith Brown

bum infomation that was, just got another email

"There are no safeguards and there are unlikely to be any cast-iron solutions from our side. Al Jazeera have been aggressively blocking access to their service - as they're well within their rights to do - and at present the site remains incompatible with SmartDNS.

We're monitoring and staying appraised of the situation, but that is all for the present time."

Sounds like game is up from their side, wouldn't be surprised if other companies followed suit and that method is done with altogether

Without bombbarding akki007 further, if someone's been PM'd i'd appreciate a note of how to get round it please?

How does the SMARTDNS actually work? My brother lives out in Qatar, not sure if i could create a cheat DNS server in his apartment, or use his ISP's DNS servers... i dunno, i don't know how it works at all.
