I tried watching those free channels without logging in and they were perfectly fine, but after i logged in, the picture quality and framerate dropped drastically...has anyone else noticed this?
yep just tried, same thing happens to me.

I suspect the new mechanism is looking at things like round trip times which would clearly demonstrate to aljaz that its not being watched in the MENA region. I have a friend in Morocco that has confirmed that aljaz is all fine for him when on his home broadband connection.

Well, I guess that's it then, when even a (normally working) DNS-service becomes useless because of that new mechanism then AJS finally really seem to have won
I mean, what else could we try out now? Unless they change it back again (but why should they do that?) it seems hopeless

Anyone tried using Android. I've locked myself out my account, so can't.

Thought it might work as it's not full flash. Doesn't handle the dual audio stream well though. Left and right channel is either language

Not the app. I've got that but it sucks. You can get it by using the Egypt vpn and creating a new Google account and using that in Google play while under the vpn.

I meant with Firefox and the flash plug in.

even when using a vpn / proxy setup the round trip times are not going to be genuine when they report back. If you use say eygpt then you are adding about 320ms to the roundtrip. Whereas a genuine user in eygpt would hit the akamai streaming servers in say 100ms. There would be some leverage on this mechanism to take into account slower connections in the countries concerned. So it would need some clever routing by the dns companies after the talkback site/ip in question is identified. Also believe what there doing is illegal as it causes firefox for example to lockup and crash after some time if you leave it running. The talkback is happening on a non HTTP so only way to identify is with a program called wireshark and look at all packets in/out over your pc's connection. Then just a matter of adding that IP to your firewall and blocking it.

The reason IOS is ok is because the app's are sandboxed so they can't talk back to unknown ports etc. Also IOS is built on unix so very very secure.

I am sure the clever guys at the DNS providers can easily identify this traffic but its wether they want to or not.

probably your dns provider trying to get things sorted. When the channels don't load its because the geo check isn't happening

Yeah, I just tried again and I can confirm that the Android app works without any problems. It's streaming in HD without framerate issues.

The iphone app with atv is perfect. It's AJS flash player that's gone haywire but surely it would be the same for users in mena?

Yep i noticed that too. If not logged in and free channels are watched then all is ok which proves there is no issue with flash or the content delivery network for the streams. There is a new mechanism in play which is causing packet loss on the stream which results in frames dropping. If once a stream is playing you toggle on the performance monitor in flash . You will see when the stream starts you get 25 fps and the ms ( latency ) is very low. As time passes the fps drops to say around 10 and the ms is growing continually.
I suspect the new mechanism is looking at things like round trip times which would clearly demonstrate to aljaz that its not being watched in the MENA region. I have a friend in Morocco that has confirmed that aljaz is all fine for him when on his home broadband connection.

If this was the case, wouldn't vpn services work properly then?

akki , users in mena on normal broadband all ok through laptops/pc's confirmed 100%.

If you appear as a user in say eygpt then akamai/jsc know that your ping to the akamai servers etc should be say between 50-160ms depending on broadband speeds. When you use vpn your adding the latency/ping of the transit between say UK and eygpt which round trips at about 320ms. This is already out of say a given threshold. JSC have confirmed over email that they have no issues from there end whatsoever.

Also if it was flash that was screwed up how could you explain the free streams say global , 1 & 2 working perfectly until you actually log in !!!

A new measure has been added and if they can do it i am sure all providers can follow suit and stop smart dns services working completely. It is therefore however in the interest of the dns providers to remedy this sooner rather than later otherwise there pockets will become empty.

Ethically i think JSC have done a backdoor process as for something to lock up a browser isn't ethically correct. The new servers being talked back to are in russia and are listed within IP ranges blacklisted worldwide. This comes back to my point of what jsc have done is not ethically correct as they are almost pushing an exploit/hack/trojan to our PC's

Aah, that all makes sense. Sounds like that's what's happening then. How do they restrict the frame rate based on ping? Also, when I have asked them about it they have directedme to ping test.net! You may be onto it!

Tbh your theory sounds really far fetched and it does not explain why the Android app is still working fine.
