Have the above LG plasma and Sharp sound bar.

Cannot get sound through the bar from TV.

Connected by yellow/red/white plug in leads but nothing happens? Tried sound settings in TV but still nothing, worked OK in old Samsung LCD this way.

Can anyone help please?

Just because your old TV connected this way it doesn't mean your new one will. That's the situation here.

Your Sharp has analogue inputs only: the red and white plugs are the ones for sound

The compatible outputs on your LG TV is just the SCART socket. I don't see any mention of a headphone jack for the specs on that TV. If there is one then you could use that as an alternative.

To connect the SCART from the TV to the red/white audio sockets on the Sharp you will need a SCART to PHONO cable. Get a switchable cable like this and you will be guaranteed that it works in one of the two settings. You won't need to make any adjustments on the TV menus.

To work it all, turn the volume down on the LG TV and simply use the Sharp's remote control for the volume.

There is a problem with the SCART output. it only appears to output the built in tuner. Fine if you only ever watch Freeview on it. But useless if you watch a DVD or even play back a recording on a PVR.

It would seem the only way to get audio from whatever you are watching is to use the digital audio out. As the soundbar has no digital audio input you will need a digital to analogue converter such as this..

Chrisjr is that only thing that will work? Quite pricey really, if i went for a new sound bar what type should i go for?

From what I can gather from the manual the SCART output only feeds the built in tuner out. So if you were watching a DVD/Blu-Ray player connected via HDMI for example you are likely to hear nothing.

The optical output seems to be the only option to get audio from whatever is being viewed on the TV. So as your sound bar has no digital input of any sort a converter is the only option. And 35 quid is cheap for a half way decent one. And probably cheaper than a new sound bar with some form of digital audio input.
