With season 7 airing in 2012 and 2013, does that mean that all subsequent seasons are going to air over 2 years as well?

If they are then that will suck a lot, having only 1 season every 2 years.

I thought the whole of series 8 was going to be aired next year with no breaks?

Series 8 will air continuously from August through December 2014, followed immediately by the Xmas Special.

No. I don't have a database of links to official confirmations. I read it & moved on.

It's a common rumour, but it hasn't been confirmed.
My guess is that it's the plan the production team are working with, but it may change.

In keeping, no doubt, with the whole of the Moffat era, plenty of time will elapse - filled with rumours and semi-official confirmations followed by denials - before it's confirmed that the series will be split in half again and straddled across two calender years.

I really hope I'm wrong, because it's vitally important that the new 12th Doctor is given a full, uninterrupted run of episodes. But I suspect it will be similar to the last two years.

Jenna recently confirmed that they'd start series 8 filming in January, so we'll obviously get an August/September start, and hopefully for a complete run. There's no 50th anniversary episode that will interfere with the regular production schedule like last time.

Series 8 will run in sections, part of a year-long run of 13 episodes;

4 episodes in January.

7 episodes in March-April.

5 Episodes in June.

7 more in August.

6 more in November.

And a Christmas Special.

And that's official.

If they're not starting filming series 8 until Jan 2014, you're saying it will be a year before we see it?

Has anyone else noticed that BBC1 prime time Saturday evening ratings seem to have taken a nose dive without Doctor Who? That should be reason enough to convince the big wigs that there should be a decent amount of Doctor Who shown each year.

You'd think so, wouldn't you?

You must be living in an alternative universe then since there has never been an official confirmation of when Series 8 will air in this Universe.

Rumour is there will be a continuous run of 12 Episodes from August but that has never been confirmed.

That has not been confirmed. If they are filming in January, how can they show the new series then?:

There seems to be a lot more to worry about re that schedule than transmission dates to be fair...

And that's 30 episodes. Result!

You should read Private Eye!

In June 2011, it published a story about production of Doctor Who's season 7 being in "chaos"
It said BBC bosses had been horrified to learn that all BBC Wales was producing for 2012 was a number of 'specials' (a bit like in 2009)
The BBC immediately published a denial, saying it was producing the usual 14 episodes
When asked when these episodes would be broadcast, the BBC suddenly went suspiciously quiet
Many months later, the BBC began to sneak out information about the "broadcast schedule" of season 7 which showed - minute for minute - the amount of Doctor Who being shown in 2012 was much closer to the 'year of specials' predicted by Private Eye than the '14 episodes' promised by the BBC
The BBC later apologised if it gave fans the impression that all of season 7 would be broadcast in 2012.
There have been quite a few changes in the senior team at Doctor Who, and I think a big part of that is ensuring the production problems are resolved and we can return to a more consistent broadcast schedule for Doctor Who.

I imagine the preference is a straight run in September up to Christmas. My personal preference is a return to the schedule for seasons 1-5 (13 episodes from late March/early April and a Christmas special). But it seems those days are long gone!

I wouldn't mind an Easter special, plus 13 eps from August.

Well, there certainly no series this year (last few early in the year was last years eps).

Hence one 50th Anniversary, one Xmas special and the dire 'Here's the new Dr and that should keep you all quiet for a bit.'

It is quite amazing how they screw around with Dr Who but left Merlin alone for normal runs...and who will remember Merlin in 10years time? An OK series with a cop out ending that made me wish i hadn't started watching the '5 year story arc' from the start'.

Dr Who is a major cash-cow for the BBC but they just do not treat it as such seemingly preferring soap operas reality TV cooking show and talentless shows which have little rewatch value at all.

It was in the email that confirmed Matt's exit. The statement from the beeb said this was the plan as it would allow fans time to get used to the new Doctor. Presumably they are worried a break/ split would endanger that

1) Go back to my post
2) Re-read the part where I say there's 13 episodes.
3) Add up the total numbers of episodes from those each line of my post.
4) Compare that number with the number 13
5) Look up the word joke in a dictionary.

Sorry. With some of the posts lately I'm not sure which to take serious. As for the numbers, I made the mistake of thinking they were typos.
