Just wondering how much data on average anyone else on BT goes through in a month.
This is only my 2nd month and I am on unlimited but I it says I used 53gb last month and im up at 37gb for this month from 1st aug.

We have been watching BT Sport through app quite a lot since it launched so guess that might account for a lot of it. Also have ps3, laptop, 2 phones, 2 ipod touches and nexus 7 using it.
Not sure if it also accounts for anyone using it as a hotspot?

Just wondering if even though its supposed to be unlimited if there's a trigger point where BT get a bit miffed?

Does my useage seem excessive or fairly tame?

Mine says my average is 46.99GB, but we've not been using Netflix as much lately as we usually do. Some months it must be so much more like when we went though every episode of 24 within a few weeks.

Mine is averaging 850GB, used to average over 1TB

I am averiaging about 500-600gb a month, was the same with sky as well. I am most certainly in the minority, though I will admit most people's usage does explode when you have fibre installed. Friend of mine went from averaging 80GB a month to around 250GB. When you have fibre it does open the door to so many other things to be done at once.

I had thought that watching BT sport did not count towards broadband useage. Im on Umlimited usage and have so far never gone over 30gb in a month. I also use a Nexus 7 and Nexus 4. Also if my sister pops round she sometimes uses her Ipad Mini or her iPhone 4 on my wi-fi.

Received an offer letter from BT for Bt broadband, Bt Tv + free youview box and free weekend calls earlier today. Will not be taking the offer.

Looking at the Terms and conditions it says there is a 10Gb usage limit. But there's no mention about the BT Sport data usage being free.

Looks like you will be running up a large bill for data downloads.

If you have never gone over 30gb a month why didn't you choose the package with a 40gb cap, it is £8 month cheaper than unlimited

According to someone on here, a BT employee, the app doesnt count on your data useage so using the app us essentially unlimited.
Im not sure if frowned upon but with getting free bt hotspots as long as you allow it from yours. You could in theory connect up to the bt wifi side of your router to protect your 10gb.

But the data usage limits are what people seriously need to look at in the terms and conditions before signing up to a deal or they could be stung with a huge bill for data without even realising.

I hope (s)he's right or there are going to be a lot of people being billed a lot of money.

I'm not so sure about your 10GB router being turned into a BT wifi hotspot at no extra charge. How far can a wifi signal actually travel?

My bt hh4 is a bt hotspot. By allowing this I get use of alll the other bt hotspots. Yes. Domestic ones aren't going to be heavily accessed as walking past, no sooner have you connected but you go out of range. However it is there for folk to use. Im on unlimited anyway but in my own house I could in theory connect to my own hotspot side.

Yes, that is true. BT have been running this scheme for quite a while, but the range of a Home Hub is not great - I can access mine about 20 feet from the house, but not much more - at least not on my normal SSID (I haven't tried it with the BT WiFi) so it is of limited value. However, I have occasionally used it in the street elsewhere and it does work.

I was on a 40gb a month cab when I was on up to 20mb speeds but was only getting about 4mb speeds at the time. At the time over two years ago when I got Infinity I thought I would go for unlimited as now and again I download music and once in a while use internet radio and watch You Tub. When I upgraded to up to 78mb speeds over 9 months ago. I stayed on unlimited as the upload speed seems better.

I always feel so long as you have the money of course that at least it takes the wondering away by having unlimited. Also when relatives come over they can connect at will too.

David 16 the 10gb cap a month package is BTs basic internet package and is for light users. As you say some people need to look at the usage limits a month before they order. BT ads make BT seem cheap until you look into it and find out that's there basic package with a 10gb a month usage limit.

Indeed the home BT Broadband router can be used as a free BT Wifi hotspot.

But I would not wish to rely on the wifi in the home for a broadband package with such a low usage limit as the wifi would be prone to constantly cutting out and suddenly reverting back to your normal broadband data and you are frantically trying to reconnect to the wifi to avoid using too much data. A nightmare when you are watching a live sports event and you are only on the 10gb monthly usage BT Broadband package. You may not even be able to reconnect to the wifi immediately and there may even be an outage with the wifi at BT's end so you could be going over.

Would you get money off your next bill if there has been a problem with the wifi and you go over your 10gb usage limit? Or is it just your scooby doo?

You could make your device forget your own ssid and password. Purely connect via tge hotspot.
Im just not sure if the hotspot side is speed limited or not. Id presume it is so as not to disrupt the actual owner

There will be quite a number who will be taken in by the offer I received today and try to get by on their 10Gb in conjunction with their router used as a free BT wifi hotspot in their home.

But trying to get by on the cheap costs a lot more on the long run. BT may claim that the BT Sports 1 + 2and ESPN is free online for people using their 10gb router as a BT wifi hotspot in the home. But as you claim their wifi is very poor quality it would be highly surprising if people don't have to use their 10gb broadband and well in excess to watch the sports and do all other internet browsing. It will probably cost them a lot more than if they go unlimited.

If people contact customer services and say their wifi cut out constantly while watching the football causing them to use a high amount of their data limit and go over it, plus their PC, laptop or mobile crashing or freezing, do they have a legitimate complaint for money off their next bill?

You ought to be able to but if it has to be at a place where there's a BT Wifi hotspot then it's highly restrictive.

For people who don't want to watch the sport on their PC, laptop or mobile, the 10gb used together with the wifi the BT special offer will be a cracking one.

The youview TV part itself if you took their special offer is only £55.95 (activation fee plus delivery) plus connection charge for 18 channels in addition to freeview. Great of you need to downgrade from Sky or Virgin.

Buy They would not have offered the BT Sport only as an online option if they did not believe they would make a killing from people extensively using their broadband and going miles over rhe 10gb usage limit in watching it as the wifi uded as a BT Wifi hotspot in the home will be highly unreliable. If people with Virgin think rhey would be saving money on their broadband by switching over to BTwith the BT
