advantage is a really good product for fleas, if you buy it online it works out at around £2.30 per treatment
(they come in a pack of four treatments)

i used bob martins double action spot on, which is a direct copy of the advantage for a long while thinking it was cheaper, but the advantage itself actually works out more cost effective.
completely safe to use in a dog/cat household too.

i would also worm him if he has fleas as if he is nibbling at himself to relieve itching, he will likely be consuming some of the fleas, which are a vector for worms which can then infest your cat.
which could also be the reason he has lost weight.

just don't go for Advocate for this as he needs a broad spectrum wormer which will also treat him for tapeworms, not just round-worms like advocate.

Drontal, while a tablet, and sometimes tricky to administer to a cat, is less that £1.80 per tablet and only needs to be administered once every three months, routinely. (more often in the case of an infestation)

getting him checked over is a really good idea though, it's hard to find the money some times but they're worth it in the end

Thank you.
He's actually ate a fair few biscuits today. Still not his normal self but I'm happy with what he's eaten. Got him some Whisker treats and he loved those. Also got some hotdogs which I'm going to try a very small piece with and I have a chicken fillet defrosting over night to cook for him tomorrow.

I'm fairly satisfied so I'm going to give him one more day. Besides I need my cat basket back from a relative before I can take him. It's somewhere in their cupboard after I lent it to them way back.

Chicken fillets! You are spoiling him
Brooke gets value range frozen chicken thighs 'n drumsticks and frozen mystery 'white fish fillets'.
Hopefully whatever has been putting Yoshi off his grub is passing.

I use advocate and then once every 3 months I get a roundworm treatment from the vet which is all they said my cats need.

Going to pick up the wormer later today.

He only had a mouthful of biscuits today so far and licked some of the jelly of the wet food I put down. But the chicken was a hit. He ate a whole fillet and h'e been munching on whisker treats. Now I need to defrost even more chicken.

If he's eating the treats try crunching them up and sprinkling them on his food, maybe it'll make him eat a bit more.

Tried the crinkling up of the treats. He wasn't that interested then again I did put down some of the tin of cat food I got yesterday. He actually ate around half of that and it was quarter of a tin. He even sat down to munch on it when before he hasn't relaxed enough when eating wet food.

He has also had his wormer now today. Will see how he goes tomorrow.

also slightly warming the food might encourage him to eat because it makes the food really smell....just a few seconds in the microwave should be enough.

strangely my cats have stopped eating the tins of food they've always eaten but they willingly eat pouches of the same type of food ....

warming the tinned salmon worked quite well. It certainly smelled quite a bit.
Today he's had half a hand of cat biscuits, about 10 cat treats and has just finished a fairly large Chicken fillet. (almost half the size of his head)

Still not eating as normal but he is eating and enjoying what he does. The fact he is actually willingly eating chicken and cat treats has me thinking it is the heat/fleas/worms that is causing his eating issues rather then something more sinister. But as always I'm keeping a close eye. Got to give the wormer time to work too.

He has had two poos today. Both solid and smelly and normal looking. He has weed a few times too and shows no signs at all of discomfort. So it seems his bowels and bladder are in good nick.

Will post here often with updates.
(Not made the vet appointment yet as he has shown readiness to eat certain foods. It costs nearly £30 just for a consult and I'm on JSA and not registered him with a PDSA vet yet)

have you tried him on different types of pouches or tinned food?
my old cat would refuse to eat her food every few months, i would have to find something else she liked for a few months until she changed her mind again, she went through every type of food they sold in the supermarket.
the 3 cats ive got now have always had the same food until recently, all 3 refused to eat it at the same time so i had to change it, maybe they changed the recipe or something...?

I've been trying different tins. He actually tried a big chunk of what I put down. He still left half of it but he ate.

Also much more positive, I think I found a way to get him to eat better. He seems to be much happier to eat his biscuits outside on the concrete. He ate loads this morning. Around two handfuls at least. I lost track a little as I was pouring more down when he ate what I already had.

His stomach felt full last night too. Still skinny on the hips but that should fill out in time as long as he eats well over the next few weeks.

Looks like his appetite is pretty much back to normal now. It may very have been worms that caused it.

So yay

My cat isn't a picky eater which is why I was concerned when he was losing weight and not eating much. Today he actually willingly ate biscuits out of his food bowl when I've had to put his food outside on the ground to get him to eat.

Some sneaky cat found out and had been munching on them when Yoshi was in. Yoshi might not have been too amused by that

My cat was the most fussy eater you'd have seen, put bits of chicken down he'd have known right off it wasnt the breast his fave bit. Plenty of times he would have refused to eat certain things

Sounds to me more than anything he was bored of his regular food, cats tend to get bored very easily of eating the same type of food over and over. I always switch my boy Loki's food every time he is running out. Eg. Instead of buying him Whiskas all the time, I get Whiskas once every two weeks and then switch him to Felix, after that to Kit-E-Kat and so on. Not once has he turned his nose up at his food.

If this type of thing happens again in the future a good trick to get them to eat their food is also to mix a tin or few pouches of food with a tin of tuna.

Just a quick not about this issue, my older cat of two recently went off her food which is not like her at all, she also just wanted to lie down all the time, though she is not the most active cat this was not like her either.

Went to vet on day 2 of her not eating and the vet was able to diagnose pancreatitis caused by an infection, gave her anti-inflammatory and antibiotic shots and prescribed antibiotic pills and recovery food, puss seems to be on the mend, fingers crossed. Appetite seems to be returning and she's a bit more active within her own natural limits.

I would say always do get vet advice if puss is off food for more than a day or so.
