Does sunlight damage DVDs in their boxes?

I have stored my DVDs on a shelf in a room which during the day a lot of sunlight shines into. The DVDs are all secure in their boxes and covers but will the sunlight shining through into the room have any effect on them or damage them in anyway even if the DVDs are in their boxes and covers?

Thanks

Are these home burnt DVD's which use light sensitive dyes or commercial ones ?

They are commercial ones.

Will the DVD's in their boxes and covers be okay if sunlight coming in through the window shines on them sometimes?

When I say I have stored the DVD's in their boxes and covers I mean the actual DVD cases.

Will exposure to sunlight damage a DVD in its case?

Unlikely, the recording face of the disc has a insert in the case that will stop UV dead. The process of recording burns a permanent copy into the disc.

The data layer on pre-recorded discs is essentially a "stamped" pattern of ridges and hollows.

Recordable discs have a crystalline dye layer that can be altered via the write laser into different states of reflectivity. It "looks" the same as a pre-recorded disc to a DVD player or reader, but it's more vulnerable to damage from direct sunlight.

I'm not sure how susceptible pre-recorded (stamped) discs are to damage from environmental conditions, though
