Nook HD+

Just wondering if anyone has this tablet?

Have been thinking of buying one of these for a while and they are still on sale so was looking to pick one up at the weekend before the sale ends.

I know it now has google play installed but how does it compare to a regular android tablet?

I already have a samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 but am interested in this tablet as it had a full 1080p screen and a higher pixel density than my current android tablet. So I'd use it for watching videos and reading magazines and comics. I pretty much only use my galaxy tab for watching videos so it might be silly to keep both, but I wonder if I'd miss the extra real estate on the tab?

How does video look on this and is it smooth in performance?

I've got one!

I've found it great - and if you don't like the look of the Nooks interface you can install a launcher such as Nova to make it look a bit more normal Android like.

Performance wise it's been great - pretty much on par with my previous Nexus 7.

The screen itself is really nice and clear and HD videos would look great on it - and the speaker is pretty decent as well for a tablet.

I have install Cyanogenmod 10.1 though now to get Jellybean and that's working very well.

You might just miss that real estate for touch usage.
When I'd mentioned few prefer the smaller tablet size, I then realised that the 16:10 HD+ is in fact closer to the iPad Mini in area size.
Stats are weird, so maybe the size preference that does exist, was as much for a high resolution tablet.

I think the Nooks and the Kindles use the same chipset so handling 1080p should be easier on the Nook. Yet 720p on th HD+ would require a downsize to Kindle resolution.

It is an excellent tablet and for the £129 I paid simply the best out there in my opinion not really sure I can criticise the tablet at all .. once you have launcher installed as the nook os is a bit rubbish.

Thanks for the replies. It was the Nook interface that was putting me off but it's good to know that I can install a launcher.

If you stuck with the Nook interface it would be a bit poor - but still a good tablet. Being able to stick a launcher does make it much, much better.

The HD+ already has an Cyanogenmod Android 4.3 build on the go, unlike the HD.

No good reason to get the HD now - unless you are very tight! LOL

You would indeed be madder than mad to go for the HD for the saving ... or indeed tight as ****

I sold my £70 Odys and got the HD for £71.
So it cost me about just over £20 in total.

That was just before Nook saw sense and put Google play on it.
It wasn't until recent reading the Guardian via the PDF version that I realised how good a HD+ would be.For a while CEX had the HD for about £105 !

Apart from a fail in having no GPS, the HD still beats the old Nexus 7. (and no camera).
I still don't use my HD very much and even now, I doubt the HD+ would increase usage by much more.

To be fair to you Al the HD+ has only recently became this cheap but for the £129 I paid its a no brainer, so I wouldn't dream of calling you tight

I get to go through a lot of tablets.

I also had both the Tab 2 3G 10.1 and the 7.
I also got to check over the Tab 3 7 today. Its prettier but seems lower spec than the 2 7.
