Whenever things are going wrong for David, he always blames his 'bad' upbringing. It drives me nuts. Granted, it wasn't the easiest of childhoods, but he had it pretty good over all. He had a roof over his head, food in his belly, clothes on his back and a family who loved him. It makes me feel sorry for Gail and that's saying a lot! Things started going wrong for David when Martin moved away but that can hardly be blamed for all the bad things he has done over the years.

I'd like Martin to come back to the cobbles, even just short-term. Unlikely, though.

Though everything you say is true I think all this stems not from Martin moving away but from what Richard Hillman did. During the Hillman era David was quiet, sensitive etc. When the truth about Hillman's murders came out, David found it hard to believe that "our Richard" would do all that and then Richard kidnapped him, Sarah, and Gail and tried to kill them and himself. Sometimes a traumatic event changes you as a person and taints you in some way, sometimes permanently and even if things get better later on, it can still affect you. It's not an excuse for his behaviour but it is the reason he turned out the way he did.

OOohhh that... I recall now... however, there are kids who have been through much worse... aren't anywhere near as bad actors as he is...

Fair point. I enjoy David sometimes but he needs to get over himself already.

there's more characters on there with an even worse upbringing so he should think himself lucky, even if it is by E.T

I think he changed drastically when he found out that Gail had considered aborting him.

Shame she didn't, he wouldn't be missed in soapland. I am sure someone must like him in the real world, maybe just maybe even his mother.

Wow, is that true? I missed the episodes regarding this. That's a horrible thing to find out about your mother. As for David's behaviour now, other than the crash I can understand his vendetta against Nick as David's wife could be carrying his brother's baby.

He was awful a long time before that. Remember the poison letters from Hillman to the family? That was a great storyline.

I always loved David's character because I felt the Richard stuff had badly scarred him and turned him pretty awful, and that was interesting. Then they seemed to scrap what had the potential to be a 'traumatic stress' storyline.

The abortion thing just led to him ruining Christmas (one of my fav Christmas ep's ever) but he already despised Gail a long time before that.

Brian Capron is on Celebrity masterchef tonight and he says if anything goes wrong we might see a bit of Richard Hillman creeping out! I sincerely hope so

Yes why was that? When did he start hating her? Was it when Martin left, I can't remember the original reason now.
