Youview box question.
Hello, if anyone could clear this up for me, it would be appreciated.
If I was to take bt infinity broadband unlimited and tv unlimited extra, how would I know that I would receive a youview box as opposed to being given a bt vision box? Why would someone receive a bt vision box instead? Does it depend on the property's speed available? At what point if buying online would this be known? Many thanks. |

I think BT are now giving YouView boxes as default unless you want Sky Sports.
You can definitely chose a YouView box on the website. |

It's odd because on the website if you don't select Sky Sports then yes you get a YouView box. If you do select Sky Sports you get Vision+ However I have a feeling that when BT are cold calling people they are giving them a Vision+ box unless they specifically ask for a YouView box. |

My new "box" from BT is being delivered today, along with Infinity being enabled. The email from BT confirming delivery doesn't mention the type of box, just that they notice I have an old silver box and I'll need an upgrade. We'll see what arrives.

Yup.
A Vision+ box. I'm, a little disappointed, guess I'll end up ordering a YouView box, at great expense. |

If want sky sports then you can only get it through a BT Vision box. Also if you're not in an Infinity area and want BT Sports then you'll also need a BT Vision. However, if you're in an Infinity area and don't want Sky sports then BT will definitely try to push you down the Youview route. It's their chosen platform for the future. |

The YouView is generally viewed as the better box.

But can you get the "extra" channels on the BT Vision + box?
I thought they were only available through the YouView box. |

I think overall the YouView box is better but the Vision+ box has definitely grown on me. I have the latest box with the latest software and I find it very fast. I quite like the software now, I didn't used to. There are benefits to it being BT's own box too, all of the help screens and setup screens are very specific to BT's service which can be very helpful.
My 12mth old BT Vision box is a 256 which means it's a little bit slow at times but my Dad's just subscribed and received the 512 box which is lightning fast. I assume all new subscribers are getting the faster BT Vision box. |

I agree, I think the YouView box is generally seen as better but I still love the BT Vision box and really like the new software now.

Excellent - thanks for the info'
On the Vision + box....... how do the extra channels work? Are they in the EPG? Or are they hidden in a menu somewhere? And can you record them? |

Just reading the BT help pages.... it says that the extra channels can not be viewed if your BT box is connecting via power line adapters. Is anyone watching these channels and using power line adapters?

yup me, the my YouView box is in the bedroom connected via Solwise 500Mbit Homeplugs. You get the odd glitch but only like you would get with any digital service. That said last night it was lightning like mad here and i was watching Wheeler Dealers on Discovery and it didn't fart or splutter once to my surprise.
when i ordered i just said it was connected via a cable, which by hook or by crook i guess it is

That's right, and it seems like if you order the multicast channels they swap the 256 box for the 512 box. I think anyway, that's what happened to me.
I upgraded to Infinity and the multicast channels but they didn't give me a new box, so I'm still on the 256. I think it's just completely new BT Vision subscribers getting the 512 box
