I was only a baby when the plane crash happened in 1993, so I couldn't really count it since I never saw it myself.

LMAO - very clever

Id say the Corrie Tram Crash is the best and will take some beating. Cant imagine any soap even trying. Corrie got a budget for it's 50th that the other will never get.

Worst: fairground disaster

If we're doing worst as well (considering I already said my best)

EastEnders Vic Fire was top of my list. It lasted about 9-10 minutes and nobody died.

1. Rovers Fire (okay it was arson committed by Karl and not a "natural disaster" but still a disaster all the same in the sense of the pub being burnt to the ground even if it was done on purpose)
2. Corrie Tram crash.

I don't know any other disasters.

1. Emmerdale- Plane Crash- Very dark and 'real'. I've never been a fan of Emmerdale, but this was so well written/ produced that it's cemented in my mind as the best soap disaster ever.
2. Home and Away- The Flood- It looked like a real flood and having Michael drown triggered some of H&A's best stuff ever.
3. Neighbours- The Lassiters Complex burns down- Excellent disaster episode and the most wild fire I've ever seen in soap, but the 'toy town' replacement that came in 2005 ruined 'Erinsborough' for me.
4. Emmerdale- Bus Crash- Haven't seen it in years, but I remeber the 'rescue' being quite gritty and upsetting.
5. Coronation Street- Tram Crash. Melodrama by the bucketload and completely unbelievable, but it was still extremely exciting and well-produced.

Honourable mention to Brookside for the chopper crash in its later years. I remember that looking awesome! (I was only 12 at the time, bear in mind...) I only saw the stunt though, so can't comment on how the story held up....

Oh, the Summer bay Earthquake was pretty awesome, and the landslide...

However both disasters served to 'take something' from Alf in the long term, leading to him now being half-the-Alf he used to be. Though they try and play it like he is (moreso in recent years than ever before), he doesn't feel like a major player in the community anymore and losing his store was a huge part of that.
Having him lose his long-term home, and then Ailsa just weeks later did the character ZERO favours either.

So whilst they made for exciting episodes, it probably would have been better if they had never happened...

I don't know if you're watching Oz or UK pace but since Sally's come home, Alf's had a purpose again. Ray even said himself he hasn't had such good stuff since Kate left last time! It also brings up another side to Roo which is something Alf also has to deal with

Tram crash.

I liked the Emmerdale storm (though looking back I can see it was kind of a weird storyline) and Eastenders fairground "disaster".

EDIT: OH. I thought we were giving our opinion on the worst/most cringe worthy - hence the tram crash one I listed. If it's ones we liked... then not that one.

Yeah, he's gone though mini-phases of seeming to be an important character again, his brain tumour, the turbulent relationship with Duncan, his post- riot depression etc. But at this point, I just take it all as a temporary thing (like whenever the show becomes 'good') and don't buy into it.... because it's ALWAYS temporary...

But on topic, I did enjoy the Emmerdale storm too! Though I didn't like the fairy-tale aspects of the '100 things I love about you' list (which Tricia had read 99 of before being crushed ) and then Tricia's ghost appearing to Marlon and them having a full conversation... It was all a bit

Strewth, you wouldn't want to live in summer bay, it seems like the worse place on earth with all those disasters. How realistic!
