Any disabled housemates ever?

We have had all kind of people from diverse minorities winning but not one disabled person has yet taken part, let alone win. I wonder why?

Any ideas

Well you see if they did take part it would be seen in the public eye that they would have to win it seeing as they were disabled.

No offence but I think it would just upset the flow of the show.

How many did apply? There must be some. Although that's another minefield. My gf works for the deaf and hard of hearing and they seem to have their own infights. You probably open up then the whole field that one group is angry that the other group ..

Yo we are all human.

But if C4 would incude all facettes it would be nice.

what i DO know, is that it would'nt bother me the slightest if a disabled person were to be on the show...if they have applied theirself to be chosen for selection then it's fair do...and they would be assured that i would give them a fair deal(either way), as my vote is based on 'Character'. )

Using your logic all BB house mated would be white non –disabled young straight males because if anyone else did take part it would be seen in the public eye that they would have to win it seeing as they were Disabled, Gay, Old ,female ,Black etc

151 disabled people applied.

this quote is from someone who has applied to BB as well as other game shows.

Playing the game?
by Laurence Clark

“My next attempt at game show stardom was an audition tape for Big Brother in 2002, the first year Channel 4 targeted advertising in disability publications. 151 disabled people applied, but none of us were selected - and then a huge flight of stairs appeared in the house. The producers claimed there hadn't been a "strong enough" contender. Given that after five series they still haven't found one of us who fits their bill, I guess you've really got to question what they're looking for”!

Interesting.
However, when you compare that to the tens of thousands who apply, and also get rejected (for whatever reason) it suddenly becaomes a fairly insignificant number.

Also, how would someone with a disability cope with most of the physical tasks? I know I'd have trouble.

All they have to do is make the hose accessible to disabled people.

Any disabled person will do. Just give us another minority to vote for, so we can prove we're an accepting bunch.

Well my point has somewhat been proven right.Nadia winning last year cause she was a transexual.
A gay guy won it in one of the earlier shows.

If these people were what you called Straight white people then I think the voting eye would have been totally different.

Dont pick me up wrong here,Im not discriminating against anyone but this is my view on it.

Also with Kenzie,he was the young kid in the house and hurled the votes in just cause of this again.

So I have proven my point 3 times.

i think new laws have come in this year, a resteraunt near me has been threatened with fines if they dont put in a stair lift for the upper floor even though they have a ramp and disabled toilet and the lowerfloor has a lot of room, i think its something to do with being able to go anywhere in the resteraunt

The "gay guy" was Brian, and I don't think it helped him win.......if anything it caused him more problems in the house.

Er...Kenzie, why is he relevent? He did nto win and is a white English person, why is that radical?

You cold say the same about black or Gay housemates

A Physically disabled person can cope with most of the physical tasks if they are provided with the right equipment. Further more not all disabilities are physical.

Im just saying he came close to winning like cause he was the young kid and became a man so to speak (he thinks he did anyway) .

A person always sticks out for being different .

Bez was the most worthy winner ever.

I think you will find that your point has somewhat been disproved right. No black housemates have every win BB dispite the fact that every BB has had at lest one black house mate.

I'm sure a lot more than 151 black or gay people applied, and so far, there's always been a black or gay housemate.

I cannot walk without crutches, so couldn't have participated in the 'running laps' aspect of the last 'normal' BB Boot Camp task.
What equpiment could have been supplied for me to do that part of the task?

True, but out of those 151 applicants, how many were mentally disabled (Emma obviously not included)?

Well a black person is no different to a white person so why would their be a difference?

Skin colour would in no way swing the vote.

8 white people to one black ,all with equal rights would give the black persons chance of winning slim unless he/she really impresses in the house.

If you had 8 black people and one white then the white person would have a slim chance for the same reasons.

Its the ratio of skin colour why a black person hasnt won it .

That would be because the restaurant is open to the public, which the BB house isn't. BB would only have to make the house accessible to disabled people if they had picked a disabled person to be in it. They would then have to devise tasks in which all housemates could compete. A little bit more thought required but if the right candidate for the show came along it could be done.

So victor is any black person, Dan, kitten and Marco are any gay people; Nadia is any transsexual and Ahmed is any refuge and the only reason they where on BB was just to give us another minority to vote for, so we can prove we're an accepting bunch.

I enjoy mocking the contestants cos it's my right as viewer.. but if there is a disabled person will i still be able to mock them without the forum police inviting me on a guilt trip? I doubt it.

exactly! well done.

i think there will be a disabled housemate this year
and it wont be because their personality was the best of the remaining applicants. they are running out of minorities.

They won't risk ratings again by picking dud personalities. 12 more nutters, whatever their ability status.

Well Just as a black person is no different to a white person a disable person is no different to a non-disabled person so why would their be a difference?

Disability would in no way swing the vote.

8 white people to one black is a better ration than 13 non-disabled people to zero disabled people At least the black persons has a bee chance of winning.
