Even though (or possible because) everyone knew about her gender change. It was because people grew to like her as a person that she gained popularity and won.
You also have to distinguish between necessary and sufficient reasons. Nadia didn't win only because she was a transsexual. it wasn't sufficient. But would she have won if she hadn't been a transsexual? It's not at all clear that she would. For example, a female HM with large, fake breasts who showed them off so much would normally be disliked for it. And think of how often we've seen HMs criticised for being me-me-me. Nadia was one of the most me-me-me HMs in the show's history. I doubt that there is any credible explanation of why she won that does not have her transsexuality as a factor. |

They might not have edited in in the main show that much, but just as a few examples the night when she had a discussion with John and Kenzie and later on with Jeremy and Kenzie in the Jacuzi. |

And i stand by what i said more people will vote for some one out of sympathy than the color of their skin. 1.Michelle McManus from Pop Idol 2.Dr Fox & Pete Waterman made comment about her weight & they didn't think she was a pop idol.True she wasn't disabled but i'm pretty sure she got some sympathy votes. 2.The Group in X factor " 2 to go" the guy was blind.I know some people that voted for the group out of the sympathy vote. |

Even though I disagree with you I respect your right to stand by what you. Although I did hope that you would change you mid. I also stand by what I say; there are some members of the public who believe that the only reason there has never been a black BB winner is because of racism. You will find past posts from forum members who have admitted to have sympathy towards housemates because of the colour of somebody’s skin. I know some people that voted for Victor because he was black and people that vote for Ahmed because he was a Muslim. As you say Michelle McManus is not disabled so what has that got to do with anything. Further more she was the best singer.. If people are so shallow that they can not to see past someone’s skin colour, disability, religion, sexuality or anything else then that is the problem. |

I'm in my 30's, born with a illness which affects the spine so I've never been able to walk. I've been confined to using a wheelchair since my Mum couldn't carry me any more from the age of about 5 when really you don't carry your kids about too much after that age anyway do you, it's not done. I have lived independently in my own place since I was 18 with very little help and I manage just fine. I talk coherently, have the best sense of humour in the family, the loudest voice, the biggest baddest temper, the most wayout personality, I'm generally mad but in a nice way, sort of. Now, about the BB house, the only reason I am hesitant about auditioning is because of the still quite frankly out of date and tune attitude to disability. I would not expect or want people keeping me in on a public vote because I have a disability, nor would I want fellow housemates being voted out either just because they were up against 'poor' little me in the wheelchair or because they didn't fawn all over me and panda to my every whim. I would just like to be treated the same as everyone else by hm's and public alike. I think I could manage in there if BB gave it all a bit of thought first when if they accepted me to go in. They could ask me what I need, (I don't have high standards) and I'm sure the majority of things once thought through and carried out properly would hopefully make it so I could join in as much as anyone else and blend in with the walls successfully so no one would notice me and I'd win, nice one! Well, either that or they'd forget about me, period, and I'd just be left in there. No, seriously, I'm loud, that wouldn't happen. I'm not anything like Jade or Narinder though thank god, more of an Anoushka, I wish! ![]() Saying all that I do know others with all different ranges of disability some who may not cope in those circumstances. My main point is, disability doesn't necessarily mean 'needs carers'. ![]()

But granted theoretically a letter to Endemol/C4 asking, might be more helpful to solve why they didn't show up yet. But I doubt an honest answer would come back. Hence one has to generally talk about it. |

honestly...i would'nt like to go too far down that road of suspicion with regards to BB/disability-prejudice..
i reckon BB+Co have not seriously considered making adaptations to the BB-environment to cater for a/any particular condition of disability, because of lack of foresight and, lack of qualifying applicants.. however, from what i can see of the existing environment, i don't think it would be much of a problem for BB+Co to adjust...THIS 'they' may need reminding of.. |

That's what disability prejudice does....Do you not see that point? The fact is disability prejudice has always been disregard with claims of lack of foresight ....it's about time people admitted that disability prejudice does exist instead of trying to excuse it away. ..... We all know that they have not seriously considered making adaptations to the BB-environment. The question that needs to be answer is….. Why have they not seriously considered making adaptations to the BB-environment? |

If it bores you, simply click somewhere else and take 10bellies and presshardy with you. I don't see it as any reason why I should jump the que of BB, if I actually wanted to enter in the first place, I'm a person not a double amputee!. Surely my personality should come first. If I was chosen for my 'story' I'd be offended. So what part of disability prejudice do I not understand? Last edited by Golden Virginia : 30-01-2005 at 03:09. |
